    Pros

I really enjoyed working for Graco. The employees are great as well as the management. It had a family feel. The stock performs well. There are opportunities for advancement as long as you are working hard.

    Cons

Graco is not all that flexible when it comes to working from home.

    Advice to Management

Graco should consider opportunities for telecommuting or at least more flexible work hours. More vacation time is better than money in many cases.

    Pros

Graco has competitive salaries and great benefits. They are committed to developing market-leading, high quality products, and back it up by spending a lot on product development.

    Cons

Job postings for entry level mechanical design engineers are a bit misleading. First few years at the company, entry level design engineers work in 'standard product', which is basically taking care of any issues with the current product line. You are basically doing this work my yourself, and it is very hard to get support from other departments because standard products are a low priority to most employees/departments.

    Advice to Management

Graco does a good job of attracting young talent out of college, but doesn't do a great job of encouraging/providing an engaging/fun work culture for the younger employees. Also the job posting descriptions for entry level design engineers is not accurate.

    Pros

Really take care of employees, ex: still give out holiday turkey and ham. No traffic headaches, small and dynamic work teams

    Cons

Can get intense, dates do not move, but that is what drives a successful business.

    Pros

Primary focus on growth through new product development and acquisitons in new markets. CEO is direct and honest, he takes the time to listen and communicate with factory employees. Old school mentality of keeping costs down and smart spending help Graco produce positive earnings even when revenue slows.

    Cons

Graco is a manufacturing company that puts its focus and primary spending on manufacturing. Need to continue to expand in other areas to help company continue to grow.

    Advice to Management

Decide to divisionalize or not. Can't have it both ways.

    Pros

Overall, Graco is a pretty good place to work. Benefits are good, the people are professional, and the company is making money. I really appreciate all the niceties, too. For instance, they hand out turkeys and hams on Christmas, allow us use of a company resort, have generous PTO/holidays, and even time off for good business (we have a company-wide paid day off next week). You can't beat that!

In regard to some of the other comments, I don't see women as being ostracized one bit. Women are at the top of the rank in every department in the company (Sales/Marketing, Management, Legal, HR, CS, etc). Heck, my supervisor is a female.

In regard to the "political" climate, McHale has a right to his opinions as the boss, especially when it comes to policies that he sees as pro-business. He always comes across as amicable and fair. Based on our sales figures, I think he knows what's best for the company. Most people in our company love McHale. He's down-to-earth and will open his door to people when needed.

    Cons

At times I get frustrated when supervisors won't address problems. There are individuals who will go through a complex song and dance to avoid dealing directly with a problem employee.

    Pros

    Highly profitable company
    Challenging work
    Dedicated employees
    Great product
    Good benefits

Overall Graco is a good place to work if you are a high skilled and experienced employee who has been "brought up" in the organization. Manufacturing is where the organizational power lies, not a bad thing

    Cons

Siloed divisions that are extremely competitive for resources, which can be a good thing. However it stifles best practices.

The company runs very lean and budge approvals can be laborious

    Advice to Management

    Train your people
Remember that managers have as much responsibility in speaking the truth

    Pros

The products are interesting and many of the people are great. Stable company that offers good benefits. Plenty to learn and add to the resume.

    Cons

Older company with ol' boy network. Advancement often based on who you know, not what you know. Wages have lagged and are now at or below the industry standard.

    Advice to Management

Encourage those employees that show potential and reward those that respond. Offer more opportunities to those willing to take it on and make sure that their talents are utilized.
