I have been working at Great Clips full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Depending on the location it's usually a great, positive & structured work environment.

    Cons

Could have more incentives for staff. Seems like shops are not very consistent with how they are ran. One shop could be great & the other not so much, which then gives the company a bad name over all.

    Advice to Management

It's a lot of work, good luck.

    Pros

Great clips is a perfect place to begin your career as a hairstylist. It helps you increase your skills in haircutting without having the stress of working at a high in salon.

    Cons

The company only does haircuts, so if you are looking to increase your skills in color or anything else this isn't the place for you to work,

    Advice to Management

My advice to management would be to keep helping the beginners and give them enough time to perform their cuts specially when they are fresh out of school.

I have been working at Great Clips full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Instant clientele. Hourly pay plus commission and product bonus. Tips range from $25-$100 a day. Paid holidays and vacation for full time employees. 401k plan for full time employees. Great salon environment and team atmosphere. Some paid training but would like a little more diversity. You get to meet all types of people from all walks of life.

    Cons

Schedules can make work life balance hard because it requires nights and weekends and most holidays we are open but we do get paid well for working them. Holidays should be paid off days. There needs to be more diversity in the ongoing training as far as cutting techniques go. Balancing floor and admin time can be a challenge in a busy salon when floor hours are needed it can be difficult to complete managerial duties. Micro managing can also make doing some things harder as you have to wait for approval on most things.

    Advice to Management

Give managers the reins and guide them if they need it. Allow for more personal time for example sick time or personal days. Off days should be no contact unless absolutely necessary to allow for a break in the week. Hourly pay could be better or increase monthly bonus. Managers should be able to have more time off the cutting floor to allow for coaching and paperwork. If you allow stylists to work shorter shifts you will get better productivity and happier stylists.

I have been working at Great Clips full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I really like my job! I get to work with a great group of women who all have different strengths that contribute to the growing success of our salon. At Great Clips we're almost always busy, the time goes by quickly and the pay is better than I expected. I look forward to going to work everyday, and that feels good!

    Cons

I miss doing color and am having to work on my speed as I am used to spending more time with a customer.
