    Overall, pretty great company.

Salon Manager (Current Employee) Peoria, AZ

ProsIn the cosmetology field, there is a lot of competition between stylists. At Great Clips, that competition is minimal because you are paid hourly plus bonuses on productivity and products so you're not competing with other stylists....you're only competing with yourself to get that great paycheck. In great shops, there is multiple opportunities for education and growth, including the opportunity to move up the ladder.

ConsDuring slower times, payroll becomes a concern for management and upper management so the hours you are given are not always the hours you need. Some franchises have expectations that are a little out of reach and don't always understand that sometimes it takes baby steps to get where you want to be.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is so important to acknowledge the baby steps, no matter how small, if you want your team to work hard. If they feel that you only care about the bottom line, they won't work hard for you. Why would thry care about YOUR business if YOU don't show them that you care about THEM?Just celebrate the small things and the big celebrations will follow!!

Hair Dresser/Stylist/Barber (Former Employee) The Dalles, OR

ProsGreat place to learn to sharpen your people skills.

ConsPeople not showing up for their shifts!

Advice to Senior ManagementPay a little more to get a lot less. Back up what you say you'll do.Don't ask a stylist to do something you wouldn't do.

easy as does it made constant flow of cash

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

Proseasy as does it made constant flow of cash. job security, work on general public My social and friendly nature means I have a knack of connecting with children and adults from diverse backgrounds

ConsAlways worrying about the numbers, making you do more of their work. Constant issues with checks not being correct! Telling management to steal other staffs equipment then firing that staff member for getting upset about it.

Great Way to learn hands on

    Floor Manager (Former Employee)

    Proshigh volume
    learn clipper cuts very quickly
if you're fast enough you'll make a decent service commission
paid vacation that accumulates rather quickly

    ConsVery little growth opportunities
hours are sporadic, no set schedule
you will ALWAYS work saturdays and sundays, and close at least twice a week
low hourly wage especially for how hectic this job can get
No goals you hit will ever be good enough, you will get little to no recognition for successes but will be utterly crucified for falling short

Advice to Senior ManagementStop threatening write ups and help your team succeed, especially the newer less experienced stylists. Set 12-15 minutes as a goal to build up to and recognize any success as a major accomplishment so stylists feel motivated instead of kicked down.

    Hair Stylist (Current Employee)

ProsIf you're just starting out, you don't need a clientele. Tips are great. Busy and hardly ever slow.

ConsSometimes you don't get a break. During sales you can expect to stand for many hours with out a break.

Advice to Senior ManagementBalance life/work for stylists.

    Decent job

Hair Stylist (Former Employee) Nampa, ID

ProsIt stays busy so you will have the opportunity to earn a little bit of commission by cutting hair and selling products, and you earn tips. After one year, you can get insurance if you are full time. The company does provide continuing education.

ConsHourly wage is low and it gets a little boring doing men's haircuts over and over. The majority of the customers are men.

As a new stylist, this company is the first I've worked with.

    Hair Stylist (Current Employee)

ProsI feel that the focus of basic services really benefits the clients & makes a stylists life easier

    ConsThe time parameters are unrealistic

Advice to Senior ManagementTime parameters are unrealistic, especially for newer stylists & should be adjusted according to haircut types
