    Pros

Flexibility with scheduling for college students, seek to promote within, and have competitive wages. The better you do for referral's and sales the more money you will earn. Tuition assistance is also available.

    Cons

Despite the various demographic areas they are located in, they do not take that into consideration when grading employees on referrals. It's not impossible to sell a referral, but it is less likely is some areas than it is for others.

    Advice to Management

Realize the amount cross training that employees undergo and apply that to their % based raise. Though raises are also tied to performance, some deserve more of a raise then earned. The company has competitive wages between each other, but not against other banks. You need more room for movement in the metropolitan areas aside from Springfield, MO.

    Pros

The benefits are good. Most of the people are professional yet friendly. The company is growing by making wise business decisions as it acquires other banks. We just acquired a series of banks in Iowa and Illinois. GSB is growing!

    Cons

It appears that executive management has created a level of associate vice presidents (AVPs) to play hard ball against the lower level employees. The AVPs are often rude and disrespectful toward their subordinates. This may be by design or because the AVPs are over-worked. I'll allow for that. Either way, it makes for a very poor work environment and poor decision-making by management. There's very little room to move upward too.

    Advice to Management

Have the AVPs treat their employees with respect and if needed, give the AVPs a break by creating another level under them for upward mobility and decision-making.

    Pros

Good place to gain experience as a teller if you don't have previous customer service or finance experience

    Cons

Lower than average wages, tellers are kept on extremely tight leash as you're not even allowed to work on programs like word and excel

    Advice to Management

Good giving employees incentives like competitions for referrals, but need to give tellers better access to modern technology like Microsoft Office

    Pros

The interviewing process was good and very easy. The department I worked in consisted of about 15 or more co-workers. The co-workers were all nice. The manager and supervisor were very nice and understanding of scheduling restraints; they had no problem working around your schedule. The atmosphere was positive. The training was not too intensive and they start you at a good pace to learn everything.

    Cons

There were not many cons in my department. The major, and changing factor, was the pay. The pay was very low compared nationally and locally.

    Advice to Management

    Pay more.

    Pros

People were friendly and everyone was willing to help. I enjoyed learning this entry level position from great teachers that were never afraid to help.

    Cons

Supervisors are not very willing to help you move up. Everyone starts at the bottom and it is very difficult to move your way up the career laddder.

    Advice to Management

I hope that managment will someday appreciate the employees that they do have and realize that they have potential to make the bank a better place.
