Good place to work with a lot of opportunity, if you are at the right location...

    Aquatics Manager (Former Employee)
    Scotrun, PA

ProsWorking at a resort has a "fun" feeling to it. Compared to other hotels, it is pretty cool to be in such a fun place, almost like Disney. How can you not like your job when your working in a fun place?

ConsSome people are never happy with the service they receive, regardless of how good it is. That is just a part of working in the hospitality industry. The pay isn't great compared to other similar properties or resorts. Most employees required to work holidays/weekends because of the business.

Advice to Senior ManagementLine level employees and entry level management are not nearly valued enough.

Good experience but not worth a career

    Guest Service Agent (Current Employee)
    Grapevine, TX

ProsManagers willing to work with school schedules, Great and extensive training, Every co-worker is willing to help out and answer questions, Lots of leadership positions and additional job opportunites (but limited in number, so only available when someone leaves).

ConsFlat out, $10/hour is not enough. Not enough to live on, not enough to give up your nights and weekends, not enough to deal with crazy guests who yell at you.

A lot of energy is focused on how to be more efficient but without actually implementing new techniques. Recently, more focus is given to limiting number of people working which means hours are cut and you end up working maybe 30-hour weeks instead of 40 hours you were scheduled for.

There is a lot of turn-over, all the managers / supervisors have been working years for the company but everyone else tends to leave at their year-long mark, if not before.

Advice to Senior ManagementAn increase in hourly wages would solve a lot of issues and make this job feel more like the career it could be.

Great supervisors, customers not always polite.

Call Center Phone Agent (Former Employee)
    Madison, WI

ProsThe supervisors are great people and encouraging.

ConsThe customers on the phone can be incredibly rude.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe bonus/incentive opportunities sounds great, but are difficult to reach. I was hired as seasonal and told about how great the incentives were, but the trainers failed to tell me that you must work for a specific amount of time to qualify (seasonal employees don't qualify).

several great departments to work in but high turnover

    Pack Member (Current Employee)
    Grapevine, TX

Pros*several of the guests are very friendly & a lot more are repeats
*depending on the department and outlet, you could get a great group of "pack members"
*most of the supervisors & management team in a few of the departments are great & actually listen & help when needed, not just instruct or delegate

Cons*many new guests don't really read about everything to hotel has to offer online beforehand, so you do spend a lot of time repeating the same information to a hundred guests per day
*the hourly pay is okay starting out and raises are minimal (at most .25/year, not including promotions)
*entry level positions open up about 3-4 times a year from people leaving (school, better paying job, etc..) or getting fired

Also, about twice a year, the hotel does some vary deep discounts for guests who normally wouldn't be able to afford staying there. These guests are usually very upset when they find out meals & any activities other than the water park are not included in their room rate & will vent their frustration at the employees & try to haggle for discounts on just about everything.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompanies should promote the hardest working employees, the ones who get things done & who fellow pack members respect. We are not there for your amusement to see who can back stab others the best to get a higher position. Doing business this way only promotes a hostile work environment that no one will want to work for you.

It is a great place to work

    Housekeeping-Public Area (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, KS

ProsFun atmosphere, pool passes, great people, get to meet a lot of new people from all over the place

ConsLots of hard work, no 40 hour weeks, does not pay a lot

Fun to work here just management was a little nit-picky

    Arcade Attendant (Former Employee)
    Williamsburg, VA

    Pros-Fun, fast paced work environment
-Co-workers and leads were cool people
    - Easy transfers
-Scheduling was great, they worked me till closing and than had me open once I complained and I never had to do it again.
-Benefits were okay but not spectacular.

Cons-They won't tolerate a single wrinkle in your uniform
-Must be completely shaven each day
-If either of these things aren't up to their high standards they will either make you buy a shaving kit and shave or go home and iron your clothes again
-Annoying point system that isn't forgiving at all. I was in the hospital and I got fired for not coming in.
-The pay isn't enough for gas most of us commute from at least 20 mins away.
-a separate company maintained the arcade games so if they weren't there and a game went down than it stayed down
-Slow weekdays I was the only one there most of the time

Advice to Senior ManagementBe a little more lax about uniform standards especially in the Arcade where the lights are low and I'm behind a counter anyways. The guests couldn't tell if my pants were a little wrinkled or I had a tiny bit of scruff on my face. And don't send me home to iron my clothes when you have irons in the rooms. Treat your employees with more compassion and respect and people will stay longer.

Easy to move up but not enough employees or pay for supervisory position

    Food Outlet Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Williamsburg, VA

ProsIn the 8 months I was employed there I went from $7 per hour entry level position to $8.50 supervisory position. Fastest I've ever moved up with raises along the way.

ConsThe pay for the supervisory duty in combination with not having enough employees to do the tasks required was not worth it. There was a lot of incompetency and corruption in the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you promise more people and more money - deliver it.

    It was nice at first...

    Lifeguard (Current Employee)
    Williamsburg, VA

ProsMake friends easily, pay is decent, hours are good.

ConsBad working environment(it gets really hot in there and during the winter time they could open the vents but the guests complain about it being to cold so while you are suffering and getting sick from being there for 40 hours a week and there is no ventilation the guests can stay warm for an hour or so while swimming in a heated pool.
