I worked at Great Wolf Resorts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Made a few great friends and they work around most schedules.

    Cons

Management is very poor in the spa, does absolutely nothing to help. Employees are lazy and get complaints constantly. Books are never in order because the hosts just didn't care. No telling how much money the spa loses because they don't know how to answer a phone either. There is always drama. Always.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get off the chair and go do something. Train your employees the correct way. Hire a different director that actually takes charge.

I worked at Great Wolf Resorts full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fun, work with kids, hospitality, usually easy to get a job there.

    Cons

The managers are inept and have atrocious people skills, disrespect employees on a daily basis, hire nothing but high school students who don't take their job seriously.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually care about your employees. The customer is not always right. Pay your employees what they're worth.

I worked at Great Wolf Resorts full-time

    Pros

My children could come to the hotel and play at a slightly reduced rate.

    Cons

Read through these reviews and you will see a lot of consistent comments which is very telling of what you can expect at Great Wolf. If your personal and professional values include integrity, teamwork, and honesty then you will be absolutely miserable. For a company that promotes itself as a family destination and amusement park, there is zero support for work life balance even though they preach it (total hypocrisy). Managers would consistently put in 70 hours a week and go multiple weeks without a day off. This happened before Apollo (ownership group) realized they were losing their shirts and decided to save money by cutting 20% of the management team across the portfolio. Favoritism is rampant at the property and especially the corporate office. Great Wolf is the most bizzaar company culture as I've ever experienced in more than 20 years of employment. Corporate office and senior management are deceiptful and will lie to your face just before putting the dagger in your back. The culture of misery creates despondent and dejected managers who unfortunately take it out on their staff, but it is hard to blame them due to the utter insanity. It is no wonder they can't pull a profit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great Wolf has the potential to be an amazing place to work, but it will never happen as long as the team in Madison remains in place. Apollo needs to open their eyes and realize they are losing millions due to turnover and negative impressions left with former employees who are more than happy to share their story with friends, family and the internet.

    Pros

The pay was pretty good for a minimum wage job, Good starter job, Fairly easy jobs, Easy to move around in the company

    Cons

The management was just plain awful, Supervisors always picked favorites, Schedules were not always out on time, Everyone was always in a bad mood, And it was just not a fun work environment.

I have been working at Great Wolf Resorts full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Their paychecks don't bounce and the employee discounts aren't bad.
Everyone, for the most part, is very nice.
The GM really does seem to care.

    Cons

-Everyone is really nice...and fake. They aren't really playing nice, just waiting for the right bus to come along so they can toss you under.
-No support of employees. The guest is ALWAYS right! No exceptions. Even if the guest absolutely ISN'T right.
-Want a job with more responsibility?? This is the place to get it!!! Just don't expect to be rewarded for your efforts and ambition. No pay increases. Not so much as a verbal recognition of your contributions to the "pack."
-Have a problem with another employee making your life difficult or flat out treating you like crap? Don't expect the Employee Relations ladies to worry their pretty little heads about it. Don't even think your direct supervisor will care. You're alone in your misery. Maybe they should add that to "Wolfology."
-Schedule is rarely made more than a week ahead of time and even after it's made it changes at a moments notice. Does nobody here understand what it means to have a life?
-Expect absolutely no consistency in you're day to day experience with the lodge. It is the hospitality business and as such you never know what to expect from guests...but I'm referring to management. You will never get the same result twice from two or more identical interactions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start treating even your low level employees with the same respect you ask them to treat you with. And put yourselves in their shoes. Try to imagine how your actions and decisions would be received by you if the tables were turned. It's a simple philosophy really. Remember that the low level employee is the only reason your hotel functions. Start acting like they matter and are valuable to you. And I don't mean more discounts or freebies. How bout legitimate pay incentives for time served and exceptional performance? And not the bull crap few cents here and there. Remember that not everyone is a high school student or college kid that just needs extra cash. Some of us are trying to make an actual living. Everyone has seen the cost of living rise drastically over the past several years, it's time that your wages and benefits start reflecting that.

I don't have enough patience to say everything I want to say, but that's something to chew on.

    Pros

Wolf theme, team environment, get to know your colleagues, ability to get to move into email correspondence after a while if you are special.

    Cons

There is a lot of favoritism hands down. The management picks on some and salutes others. A lot of sitting for prolonged hours. Glued to a headset all day. Voice gets tired of talking after a while. No food at desk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be fairer in your decisions and at least give seniority to those who deserve it instead of who you like.

I worked at Great Wolf Resorts part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Paid decently for work, the aquatic director was great and the only management that I felt comfortable around and was actually nice

    Cons

Very poor management of lifeguards, treated employees poorly, if you quit and you stay there you are treated poorly even as a guest, under 18 employees not being schedules within time requirements under the law.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check in with employees occasionally and make sure you follow all laws regarding employment

I have been working at Great Wolf Resorts part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great for college or high school students.

    Cons

Favoritism was a huge factor in who did what and if you got a raise.
The managers were also very sexist (including the female managers) and would favor the male employees over the females.
    High turnover rate.
    Limited advancement opportunities.
No breaks - even pregnant employees are forbidden from sitting down, federal breaks are often ignored (even after 6 hours of work or for minors)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's amazing how many laws you're able to break and get away with because it's all about the GWL "experience" for customers while forcing employees to work in unbearable situations.
