I have been working at Greenville Hospital System full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good health insurance---you get 50% discount for outpatient services that insurance does not cover. Decent amount of PTO.

    Cons

Very large employer therefore hard to find parking, hard to get established, not alot of growth opportunity, not a lot of opportunity for merit increases or bonuses because they are governed by board of trustees---if you get a raise all 12k employees have to get raise.

    Pros

Good benefits! One of the largest employers in the upstate!

    Cons

Lots of chiefs, not enough Indians! Nothing get done in a timely manner! Made to feel like I don't matter!

I worked at Greenville Hospital System full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Time off was good, hours, training and ability to move within the company, however, i had the worst supervisor at cancer center doing collections and worst management there EVER!

    Cons

Mandatory overtime, raises, terrible supervision in the Cancer center

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all managers that harass their employees, and upper management should not just take supervisors word for everything. Collections was a hard job and mangement made it even harder

I worked at Greenville Hospital System full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay was great, overtime was available.

    Cons

Unless you were best friends with upper management then plan on staying in your position. Management is arrogant and clicky even to their peers. Tons of meetings that had no purpose other than to fill management time slots during the day. Supplies are hard to come by, request is madatory for everything. When requesting pens, I was sent two, one for me and one for my patients. Ridiculous.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to impress each other and upper management. Instead focus on your employees and make the business office a better, more organized place for patients. When off campus management cares about your employees more than you do its time to re-evaluate what your true position is within the company.

I worked at Greenville Hospital System full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

People are very welcoming and genuine. The company seems to value diversity and healthy living (which is nice, since it is a hospital). PTO very generous, and salary was very competitive (if you have the right degrees, certifications, etc.)

    Cons

Information Systems group is a mess. They recently layed-off 30 people, so everyone is constantly watching their back, and no one shares knowledge (so that they will maintain their value). A number of directors and high-level IS leaders were brought in from a Florida hospital system, where they had previously been dismissed. They are trying to make GHS like Health First in Florida, instead of seizing on the positive elements that already exist in the company today. No real processes and no consistency in how to get things done from one day to another. IS group is easily 10-15 years behind the times in technology as well as process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't sell people on what you wish the company would be - tell them what is it so that it's not a shock when they arrive and immediately want to get out.

I have been working at Greenville Hospital System part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, most staff is friendly and helpful.

    Cons

HR department is very unorganized. I had to apply for a job twice even after I had already been offered the job. Hard to get applications pushed through to the correct departments for hiring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Re-vamp HR department.

    Pros

Co-workers and physicians I worked with directly.

    Cons

    Lack of communication with staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with the staff. Stop jumping to conclusions without getting the facts. Get to know your employees personally, especially supervisors and department heads. Stand up for your employees.

I have been working at Greenville Hospital System

    Pros

    The benefits are really good.
A little over 8hrs PTO with each paycheck (biweekly)
    Christmas Bonus was awesome
Mileage reinbursement-although that rate keeps going down
The pay is good for what we actually do.
B-Pay (which is kind of like overtime) for working tournaments on the weekends.

    Cons

I feel like there is not really room for advancement. It goes from ATC to Lead and that is it now. It's not likely that those positions will open up a lot either.
The job may be looked at the first to get cut with hospital money issues since we are outreach and put in the high schools by the hospital.
Some of the schools can be a lot more undesirable than others as far as sports involved at the school and schedules there. You really don't get to choose when hired in, it's whatever is available so ask ask ask before accepting!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    No advice.

As is customary in many large healthcare systems, it is extremely bureaucratic and can be challenging to maneuver.

I have been working at Greenville Hospital System

    Pros

Healthcare is a secure field and one of only a few industries projected to expand and grow.

    Cons

The employment matrix often limits earning potential and the ability of management to hire the best fit for the job void of experience and/or education qualifications required for the position.
