I have been working at Guidance Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I work with a bunch of smart people, there was at one time a strong female presence, but now we are left with dopey women that make all women look bad.

    Cons

I have worked here for nearly 5 years and have seen women and minorities just fall to the side. Now, the last female executive just left, it's back to being the boys club.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Notice the strong women at guidance and promote from within!! This is looking more and more like a white boy club. It's unfortunate that the new executive team can't see that women have value. VP of PS will be missed.

One of the worst companies I have ever worked. Glad I left before I was laid off as mini lay offs are very common.

    Pros

work from home or client site in professional services

    Cons

    lack of vision/direction
    job stability is completely lacking
    very high turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some respect for your employees. Frequent layoffs or letting go people is not good for morale. Understand what employees are contributing instead of viewing employees as replaceable cogs.

    Pros

    - Their ability to meet payroll (you will get paid while you work here. Your pay check will arrive on time.
        - Free water and coffee everyday
        - Free parking

    Cons

    - Toxic work environment (in several teams).
        - Too much red tape for a small company
        - Radical restructuring and layoffs
        - Several Unqualified people in leadership/managerial positions. The company is run by former attorneys and police officers who don't know how to run a technology company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are doing a pretty good job in screwing up the company and its people. If your goal is to run the company to the ground, then you are on track and doing hell of a job.

    Pros

Pasadena is a great location. There some great places to eat nearby and great places to walk to at lunch.

    Cons

As much as you think you are contributing to the company's success, you are expendable and will not be considered to share in any company success. Your hard work and sweat are for the benefit of a few. Job seekers: don't mistake this for naivete, very few people last at the company more than 1-2 years. They are either let go by a new boss or leave to a competitor. This is not a high-tech environment with perks, positive reinforcement, and mission-based goals. "You don't know anything, you didn't do it right, you are stupid and its your fault." Go ahead - pretend like it will be different for you. You'll see.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The board must do something about executive management for the benefit of shareholders and employees. This has gone on too long. Act like a real board of a public company. This company has made misstep after misstep and the same people are still in place. Look at the attrition rates. Look at the lack of leadership and fear. No wonder why this company hasn't grown.

I worked at Guidance Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

EnCase Forensic was the state-of-the art. In the 2007 timeframe. Then, top management tried to break into the legal (eDiscovery) arena.

Forensics was the strong suit. Anyone wanting to learn about Forensic investigation should consider working here. The Training department is EXCELLENT. Forensic training is usually offered to all R&D personnel. If you come in as QA you certainly should ask for the training.

I'm not sure that programmers are given the chance for the week-long training class. I attended three tiers of training and never met one of our junior programmers. Customers were paying over $10K to attend.

    Cons

No career development for young programmers, due to the proprietary language.
Management decisions took the company in an odd direction. Middle management could survive without knowing the product and what it could do. Just kissing butt to someone above. My boss was clueless about how the software worked, and we were in R&D.
Due to lack of career development opportunities, I saw my young friends in programming as in a sweatshop environment. There is a trade-off between money and satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You won't take advice, so I won't offer any. CEO made his millions taking the company public in 2006.

I worked at Guidance Software full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The space is kind of hot and easy to talk about with prospects

    Cons

The Sr. Management is lost. They would be better off setting strategy and objectives using a Weegie board. They demonstrate no respect for their employees and a complete disregard for their careers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about you put people into positions that have actually done the job they are trying to set strategy for.

I have been working at Guidance Software full-time

    Pros

Great locations, people you work with are friendly

    Cons

Heads of Sales, Marketing, Channels, and other departments turnover constantly. You will be very lucky if you survive during these transitions. If you are junior or paid below market or there is a perceived issue associated with your termination, you will probably be OK. Very little process due to the turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to the founder and outside officers is - this is a public company so treat it like that and make the right decisions. Look at how much marketshare you've lost to rivals. You were early leaders, but you haven't been able to maintain that lead. Look at all the turnover for goodness sake. How many earnings misses are we going to hear about. How many times are investors going to hear about Conference attendence numbers, expensive reports the company has comissioned, and that the next "big" product is coming in two quarters.

    Pros

Below the executive level are good people and the products are very solid.

    Cons

It's very hard to make money or have fun at this company. Very little support for the sales team. The lack of leadership and accountability at the top does not bode well for the future. No sense of urgency outside of sales.
