I worked at Guidance Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Since this is a small company. It allows individuals to research and used various tools for their work. There are some good people working there. It's pretty rare to have to work on weekends.

    Cons

This is a place where friends promote friends. In order for you to move up, you need to be are of the clique crew or have friends at the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to be more qualified to manage. Perhaps take more management.

    Pros

Top of class forensic software so you stay on top of the current technology.

    Cons

High turn over. Little training on the products and high expectation to be an "expert".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the consultants install the software for testing on their laptops. How can anyone learn a tool they can't even use according to policy. Have actual technical directors instead of sales people running technical consultants.

    I worked at Guidance Software

    Pros

    * Good location close to Old Town Pasadena
    * There is a degree of flexibility to move around within the organization although the latest layoff may have changed this.

    Cons

    * High turnover (42%) leads to low employee morale
    * You need to fight tooth and nail for your deserved salary adjustments
    * You may be working under incompetent management
    * Inept sales managers who are overpaid but not making their quotas in contrast to the underpaid and unrecognized departments that support the inept sales team
    * Ironic technological inefficiencies for a technology company
    * A lot of office politics!!!
    * Horrible accounting and budgeting practices.
    * It was obvious the recent layoff was just for show.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are a small company acting as a large corporation. Recognize the little people who actually produce work rather than those who simply delegate and take all the credit. If there is no fundamental change, the company should go back to being a private company. It was not ready.

    Pros

Good/Friendly people outside of the 'LOCKED' room.

    Cons

    C++ and Enscript? Career killer.
The CTO is not a CTO and is still coding day and night.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change leadership and improve the culture

    I worked at Guidance Software

    Pros

Access to software and training. Purchasing their training is expensive, so free training in their software for employees is valuable.

    Cons

They have a very sales oriented culture, which fails to recognize the contribution of technical people who work with customers. Software development leadership is inflexible and unimaginative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's time for the founders to move on and bring in professionals who have experience with large companies and complex products.
