I have been working at Guitar Center full-time

    Pros

Great discount. Lax atmosphere. Flexible hours. Jam room. Jam nights. Guitar lessons. Expanding business and opportunity for growth. Great location.

    Cons

Disorganized review process. Not investing money in employees. Not rewarding hard work and achievement. Not on level with other companies when it comes to salary.

    Advice to Management

Reward hard work and achievement with pay increases. Don't allow employees to feel that their growth has stagnated. Cost cutting measures should not be imposed on the salaries of good employees. Talent comes at a price and regardless of the company's financial standing, good employees should be valued.

I worked at Guitar Center as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

I love going to Guitar Center as a customer, and being able to play the guitars. I also loved working there as an intern. I learned a lot, and the people I worked around were always helpful, and we were like a little community.

    Cons

As looking into getting a part time job at guitar center, I am a little concerned about the pay. It could be better.

    Advice to Management

    More $ please

    Pros

I don't really want to post something about my current job. It's a god gig, and you make the most of it.

    Cons

Upper management is a little demanding. Long hours can be required. Can be difficult to find good employees.

I have been working at Guitar Center full-time

    Pros

You get to make a difference in the customer experience. From assorting the most exciting products to providing services and financing to help people be inspired to make music. The company often promotes from within.

    Cons

Changes within the organizational structure can be demanding of staff and disrupt company culture. Health and retirement benefits are okay but not great.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make improvements to infrastructure and employee benefits. Consider company culture when making decisions. Lean on core competencies.

I worked at Guitar Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Strong sense of community and support throughout the company. Able to meet a wide variety of people with different backgrounds. The discounts were great too!

    Cons

Pay structure is questionable. You must be willing to relocate if you want to advance in the company. High turnover rate.

    Advice to Management

Take merchandising and restocking responsibilities off of the commission sales person's work load.

    Pros

Fantastic way to learn and stay informed about the latest gear for musicians.

    Cons

Lack of traffic and a generous return policy make it difficult to earn consistent wage.

    Advice to Management

Move to an all hourly higher base pay. No commission.

    Pros

Autonomy - you aren't usually told what to do unless you aren't doing anything People are great - of the 100-200 people I met while I was working there I liked 99% of them. Everyone is into music (Obviously) Holidays are busy, but it is great knowing you are giving that kid their first instrument I worked in Houston, then in LA. Loved both. In LA there is more opportunity to advance into corporate if you want to since the corporate HQ is in Woodland Hills

    Cons

Pay isn't great - it's all commission You will have to sell stuff you don't believe in You will definitely have to work holidays, especially Christmas time

    Advice to Management

They were bought out awhile ago and are implementing more 'Best Buy' type practices, I would be careful not to become Best Buy, customer service is the only thing to bank on in the online era
