In the early years it was exciting and challenging but as the years passed it became to mechanized and robotic.

    I have been working at H E B full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great salary and benefits. Very progressive company with ample opportunities for promotion if you perform. Training programs are excellent if you have a great trainer. Nice discount card for family purchases.

    Cons

Over the years the family owned atmosphere has diminished and the environment is political at times. At times promises are made and broken in regards to ongoing training and promotions. Hiring to fill positions from outside the company with very qualified internal applicants can be frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you make a commitment, stick to it. Be more upfront with your people when it comes to promotional opportunities vs. skirting the issue(s) on why one is not being considered for promotions. The company continues to grow, don;t become another Walmart, stay personable with your Partners.

My experience is that hard work will get you noticed at the store level, however it takes real people skills to advance.

    I have been working at H E B full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The culture is a great one, and there is recognition for achievements. The flexibility with scheduling is key to many partners' success, as many stores are open the majority of the day. The opportunity to make an impact in communities, and to be involved with a company with high moral standards is also very important in today's society.

    Cons

Cons would include low pay and compensation, and unclear expectations at times. Some seem to be celebrated, whiles others are not, and it seems to be a matter of salesman ship to determine which is which.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to upper management is to provide clear and concise feedback to those looking to advance their careers with the company, and to look at internal candidates more often as they are truly the ones who have a solid understanding of the business.
