  1. Don't appreciate higher cost staff below account level: high volume of cheap consultants. Very poor career development.

    Pros

Pay roughly follows or above average, occasionally attracting high quality (short term at least). Solid and varied pipeline of work. Sometimes consideration of avoiding travel (especially to avoid expense claims).

    Cons

Unless you play politics you area a number, thrown into whatever role comes up first, regardless of skill-set or career progression.
Bonus pot decreasing. Cheap on development, hotels, everything (to point of counter-productive).
Email clogged with internal marketing - even about someone senior's Wife's art collection! What?

    Advice to Management

If that's your strategy, good luck to you. But it's a path to 'also-ran' status at the low margin/high volume end of the market (with Wipro, TCS etc.) not like IBM or the brighter independents.

    Pros

Knowledgeable people, rigorous methodology, European travel

    Cons

Chaotic, very narrow scope and opportunity to contribute, look to shift most of the work offshore, poor working environment (clients), a couple of megalomaniacs work there, there is no real career, it's like a lower paid form of contracting

    Advice to Management

Define your value proposition to employees

  3. It was good in the beginning, but later on HCL dissapointed me

    Pros

    Great people to work with
    Good learning ground
    Friendly enviorment

    Cons

Missing international touch ( very indian driven by culture)
    Relationship Oriented
    Finance driven
    Treats employees as private property

    Advice to Management

Please give due respect to your employees and partners - it will not be long that market will treat HCL as a tier 2 org and will stop caring.

Don't believe the hype; HCL doesn't care about anyone, neither its employees nor its customers.

    Pros

My salary - which may only be the way it is because I was transferred from another company which outsourced its IT to HCL.

I can work at home a lot.

    Cons

HCL makes no attempt to engage us as participants in the company; all they do is issue work and pay a salary.

Short-notice international travel is a pain. Especially 11-hour flights in economy class.

Only cheap hotels are allowed when you do travel.

You have to use the company travel "service" to arrange your travel, and the whole process is painful. If, for example, your flight home is cancelled, they just can't cope; you have to do it all yourself. You will also wait two months to get your expenses paid. Don't even think of claiming the interest you will accrue on your credit card!

There is a general air of chaos in the management of just about everything.

    Advice to Management

Recognise that your "Employees First" policy is nothing more than window-dressing. Engage people at all levels with more than just emails.

    Pros

Flexibility to develop if right work comes along

    Cons

Sales force is a very separate organisation, disconnect with consulting team

Seems like a large pool of contractors

    Advice to Management

Not sure it is right to so closely follow the strategic marketing line from the major EAS vendors, SAP & Oracle

    Pros

A lot of autonomy in role
Plenty of challenging projects to work on
    Generally friendly staff

    Cons

Only really one career path / end point in the Delivery capability - SAP Proj Mgr, which is a very specific role. Think carefully about whether this is you.
Too many projects in difficulty, affects culture e.g. too much firefighting and focus on results at expense of all else i.e. anything even remotely sensible or corporate.
Too much selfish behaviour, a lot of buck passing, particularly from PMs. A lot of them have 15 years plus experience of doing this.
No clear strategy for making it's way out of a small company mindset to a global player. It is now adivision of much larger company (HCL) and is effectively being dragged kicking and screaming into that entity. HCL don't really know UK consulting market, but even they will lose patience with the lack of corporate nous in old Axon.

    Advice to Management

Better communicate long term strategy and plans to staff
Take more of an interest in personal development and career progression of your staff
Devote more time to building a corporate mindsight / sense of belonging for staff

    Pros

    Easy going work culture
    Good Sales Team

    Cons

No Recognition - your performance does not matter
Does not have right people in the right role
Too many managers only focused providing incorrect data to their managers

    Advice to Management

Need serious identification of performers vs non-performers at the very senior level
Reduction of the number of non-performance managers
