Not The Best

Customer Service III (Former Employee)
San Diego, CA

I worked at HD Supply full-time for more than a year

ProsThe pay is not bad. Located in the middle of the county so, it has easy access, Used to be a subsidiary of Home Depot, don't think that it is anymore...

ConsBad hours. Now part of a National corporation, which, now has call centers all over the US, not just in SD anymore. Not enough training for first time call center employees.

Somewhat Ok

Warehouse Manager (Current Employee)
Columbia, SC

I have been working at HD Supply full-time for more than 8 years

ProsIt is a good company to work for.
Pay is good to market
Benefits are good

ConsCompany worries about saving itself money. they shut the doors to a lot of Warehouse Branches and put a lot of people out of work.
- Long Hours
- Upper management has no clue about whats going on in the field
- Worst product control ever, employees steal

Advice to Senior ManagementFire yourselves... or make deliveries for a while and see what the company is actually like.

Special Order Rep.

Special Orders Representative (Current Employee)
Santee, CA

I have been working at HD Supply full-time for more than 5 years

ProsWas going to say benefits, but that changed in 2014. Still trying to figure out who this change is better for, the employee or the company.

ConsManagement is a joke, from Managers all the way down to Team Leads. Unless you started working here straight out of high school and never left, don't expect to get very far within the organization. I was even told by one of my supervisors, that it doesn't matter what you did before you started working here, it is what you do once you are here," We don't care if you have a college degree, or what other job experience you may have."

Advice to Senior ManagementPut more faith in your employees. You have tons of talented people working within your company, but the instant they try to improve or introduce something outside the Antiquated ways of the company, and by the time you share anything with anyone to just get ahead, and it goes through the corporate red tape and closed minded professionals including HR. Those talented people have left the company for better pay and less stress.

Great company with slacking pay

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at HD Supply

ProsThe systems and employees are wonderful. They way the company works delivery, products and overall treatment is great.

ConsThe pay in odd. You don't get you incentive until you reach a certain percentage. You can make the company more money and make less money for you. It doesn't make sense

Advice to Senior ManagementChange the way pay is structured

Good and Bad

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA

I worked at HD Supply full-time for more than a year

ProsUpper management is strong and has an aggressive, exciting plan for the future. Upper management's long term goals are well thought out and plans are carried out when decisions are made.

ConsHD Supply was built through acquisition, therefore everyone is a Sr Manager or VP of something. Their corporate structure is so complex that decisions are slow to be made, if they get made at all. Communication between the lines of business is poor. Communication between the central corporate management and the "field" is poor.

Advice to Senior ManagementBuild a cohesive corporate culture that flows through all the business groups. Life at the corporate office is much different than at a garden variety branch. Stick to the culture you say you want to build.

Director

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at HD Supply full-time

Prosgood experience, opportunity to move around, well paid, interesting work in an evolving business strategy that is sensitive to the market pressures; recently went public so another level of stakeholders to answer to

Conslots of hours, individual achievement is emphasized, small profit margins so working on volume, difficult to constantly hit goals without realigning people, fluid workforce and constant fear that your job is next

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop your people; create a sense of team

Account Manager

Account Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at HD Supply full-time for more than 5 years

ProsLocations throughout the United States. Vacation begins to accrue from day one of employment. Company does believe in closing for most holiday's and weekends which allows you to have a decent work/life balance.

ConsLacking a program which helps employees grow within the company. No programs in place to help defined career paths. Continuing education is not a high priority.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
