I worked at HD Supply full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great company, lots of potential for growth and increased market share. Even so, the old timers still talk about how much better the company was before Home Depot bought it. Lots of good people still work there who are very good at what they do. The department I worked in was extremely good about approving time off. The company's biggest push was employee health and offered lots of programs. When I worked there, they still had normal health insurance (not high deductible like everywhere else). The company does invest in technology and upgrades their systems pretty regularly.

    Cons

In the department I worked in, if you're happy doing what you're doing and not looking to promote anytime soon, you are not welcome. One of the managers there makes the whole team miserable, but upper management just looks the other way. I've heard that working for one of the lines of business is a lot better, but if you do then you're subject to downsizing. There's no winning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would have stayed if not for bad management - in spite of the fact that I could've made more money elsewhere. Pay attention to how people are treated who are lower on the food chain. Provide ethcis and people-skills training to new managers - and refresher courses to more tenured ones.

I worked at HD Supply full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nothing too high risk or unstable

    Cons

Benefits are offered on most everything, but costs are much higher than the industry average.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication and better benefit costs to employees. Customer orders not processed in timely manner to get product out to them ASAP.

    Pros

Pay is decent. Nice customers and great frontline employees. Which is where the money is made, but the top heavy leaders take all of the credit and play golf.

    Cons

All of senior leadership are pals, and they're either in the in-crowd or they quickly find themselves out. Line them all up and compare notes, they have all worked together in the past and/or know where the skeletons are, and they take good care of their buddies. Definitely a "Not what you know, but who you know" atmosphere. It is tough when you are more intelligent than your boss. Plus, health benefits are HORRIBLE!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get it together! Quit with the Values and Culture du jour. You will never be First Choice!

    Pros

The pay is not bad. Located in the middle of the county so, it has easy access, Used to be a subsidiary of Home Depot, don't think that it is anymore...

    Cons

Bad hours. Now part of a National corporation, which, now has call centers all over the US, not just in SD anymore. Not enough training for first time call center employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-imagine your strategy and align your company to fit personal needs and encourage within company promotions.

I have been working at HD Supply full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Was going to say benefits, but that changed in 2014. Still trying to figure out who this change is better for, the employee or the company.

    Cons

Management is a joke, from Managers all the way down to Team Leads. Unless you started working here straight out of high school and never left, don't expect to get very far within the organization. I was even told by one of my supervisors, that it doesn't matter what you did before you started working here, it is what you do once you are here," We don't care if you have a college degree, or what other job experience you may have."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put more faith in your employees. You have tons of talented people working within your company, but the instant they try to improve or introduce something outside the Antiquated ways of the company, and by the time you share anything with anyone to just get ahead, and it goes through the corporate red tape and closed minded professionals including HR. Those talented people have left the company for better pay and less stress.

    Pros

The systems and employees are wonderful. They way the company works delivery, products and overall treatment is great.

    Cons

The pay in odd. You don't get you incentive until you reach a certain percentage. You can make the company more money and make less money for you. It doesn't make sense

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the way pay is structured
