Great place to acquire technology related experience

IT Consultant (Former Employee) Chicago, IL

ProsThere are plenty of opportunities for advancement throughout the company. Many of the opportunities can be within other departments or other global positions the company has around the world.

ConsThe majority of opportunities for advancement means you will have to go outside the current department you're working in. Otherwise you can easily do the same position for the rest of your career at this employer.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow more appreciation for hard working, dedicated workers who make a difference for the company.

    Liked most things about HSBC

    Manager (Former Employee) Mettawa, IL

ProsGlobal banking organization with opportunities for secondments and advancement. During my time with the organization (7+ years), the company "owned" its issues and seemed to attempt to deal with its problems.

ConsThe US operations still appears to be a group of separate businesses (with "us" and "them" attitudes) so even at a country-level it felt like working for different companies.

    Good Opportunities but....

Project Manager (Former Employee) Salinas, CA

ProsTerrific global presence, especially in Europe. The international opportunities are plentiful and their support of international management and training programs is very strong. Solid and competitive pay. Excellent Work life balance.

ConsHSBC's recent decision to reduce their North American footprint and consolidate global business models has significantly reduced its domestic opportunities. Perhaps in a few more years, once their domestic strategy has taken shape, the US will again be a vibrent outlook for HSBC employees.

Good company to gain experience, move around, and advance.

    (Former Employee) Depew, NY

ProsHSBC had a good corporate culture overall. Employee growth was encouraged through company paid trainings, as well as, tuition assistance. There were good benefits, quarterly financial incentives, and a decent time off program.

ConsUpgrades were not always communicated properly creating user issues and problems within the department that was responsible for resolving them. Favoritism within certain groups pulled down team morale.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop letting your personal dislike impact your employee's reviews.

Vice President (Former Employee) Mettawa, IL

ProsGreat benefits (pension with medical) for legacy employees, opportunity to work remote.

ConsLots of talk about employees should only work on the things that matter most but employees are not really given the opportunity to do so.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company
