I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good Pay, good Benefits, and a flat management structure means visibility to decision makers. Locations can be in lower cost of living areas, means you can live well outside work. Profitable business.

    Cons

Work life balance is in decline, constantly fighting fires, and perpetual under-staffing means you will be under pressure constantly and often struggle to see the light at the end of of the tunnel before another tunnel comes at you.

    Advice to Management

Focus on consistency in messaging and behaviors, look further down the road. Messaging about quality is equally important as making sure projects don't fall into bad places through short term decisions and have to take drastic action to recover schedule. We need to do both.

  6. Great unless you're an intern

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

I worked at the Rockford facility as a computer engineering co-op for about a year -Relaxed environment -Pays well -Get to work with latest aerospace technology

    Cons

-Very bureaucratic -- have to work with legacy systems and software that is only still used because of contracts. -Hard to find work if you're a co-op. This is only made more difficult by the fact that the company looks down on indirectly charged hours, so it can be difficult finding people willing to give you a project to charge, meaning many times co-ops had to look outside their own department to find work.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

High pay. Exposure to some cool aerospace technology. Some people can be pretty cool if you are willing to get to know them.

    Cons

A lot of jobs are just boring. A lot of people seem unhappy with their work. Lots of long hours to satisfy emergency customer demands

    Advice to Management

Emphasis on safety and quality should be continued. However, it should significantly be improved. There are to many errors that pass through quality oversights.
