I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

High pay. Exposure to some cool aerospace technology. Some people can be pretty cool if you are willing to get to know them.

    Cons

A lot of jobs are just boring. A lot of people seem unhappy with their work. Lots of long hours to satisfy emergency customer demands

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Emphasis on safety and quality should be continued. However, it should significantly be improved. There are to many errors that pass through quality oversights.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I worked there soldering microscopic plane parts on a circuit board, this part was intersting, good atmosphere. Didn't work for them directly, I was contracted by a temporary job agency to work at Hamilton Sundstrand and they didn't renew me the contract.

    Cons

I wasn't there long enough to comment about this.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good, smart people. Hard workers. We make cool stuff for the aviation and space industries. Lots of different positions (horizontally) and locations to choose from. Great co-op program for college students. Very good benefits package.

    Cons

Chasing quarterly numbers resulted in weekly changes in program and project priorities. Lots of people in middle management limits upward growth. Applied for four department and program management positions and merited only one interview with 15+ years with the company in various positions. Or ... maybe I wasn't that good. East coast mentality that we were not smart enough to run a business was insulting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the projects to proceed per plan. The constant re-prioritization affects delivery, quality and morale. Continue to work on communication of vision and strategy of the company and groups to the workers.

Older company with traditional views on business

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand part-time

    Pros

Company had very nice people, made many friends there who spend time during and outside of work. Has cafeteria and gym on site.

    Cons

They don't really treat interns very well. You are there to learn something, but unfortunately, the company sees you just as cheap paper work laborer.

I have been working at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

They have an awesome Educational Program!
The size of the company lends itself to move into different roles between departments, not to mention the rest of UTC.
    Exciting Products!
Flex time available depending on your department culture.

    Cons

    Small Pay Raises!
    Poor Career Mapping
No annual Bonuses for non executive employees.
Not the best communications when non UTC employees know big news before you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retention Pay not on scale with market pay!

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Company was devoted to developing their co-op employees, as shown by the 50 or so co-ops and interns that were employed at any one time at the facility I worked at. The people in my department were very personable and cared about what they did.

    Cons

Office culture was pretty ho-hum - not a lot of excitement around the office. It's a large corporate/manufacturing facility that had blue and white collar employees, and everything in between.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My recommendation would be to find ways to reach out to the many types of employees who worked there, to have a more cohesive team feel.

I worked at Hamilton Sundstrand full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Good 401k (60% match).
    Good employee scholar program
Ability to move between different companies

    Cons

You are a number, and if they need to change something to satisfy Wall Street, and you happen to come through their filtering process, you will be let go.
The HR organization is not adequately trained. Most of the work is being offloaded to 3rd parties that truly do not care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the employees are people that take a lot of pride in what they do and they want to contribute to the company.
