I worked at Hampton Inn full-time for more than a year

    Pros

None of the jobs are physically or mentally hard.

    Cons

No chance for advancement, poor pay, promised reviews / raises that never came through. Very boring. Good for newly graduated high schoolers

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of handing out too many titles per department with little to no pay increases, review your pay scales and pay accordingly. Can't pay the bills with a job title. Too many chiefs and not enough indians at this place.

    Pros

It's a job. Can travel with employee discount but most hotels don't even want to give them and need manager approval.

    Cons

Being that its a franchise you can get really screwed over depending on which site you work at.

I worked at Hampton Inn full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The hotel is clean and well-maintained. There are very few guest complaints.

    Cons

The front desk staff is overworked. Because of the extremely stressful nature of the job, there is very high turnover. This results in the remaining staff having to work extra hours and not getting days off. The managers are off every weekend, leaving the front desk to fend for themselves. Because employees are tired and overworked, there is a lot of gossiping and backbiting, which only increases the negative atmosphere. When employees try to talk to management about these and other issues, their concerns are swept under the rug.

The hotel is frequently sold out. In addition to answering the incessantly ringing phone and checking in long lines of guests, front desk staff are expected to: make fresh popcorn and keep the machine full at all times; bake fresh cookies and keep cookies stocked all night; make and carry four heavy pots of coffee back and forth from lobby to kitchen; make sure coffee area is cleaned and stocked at all times; make sure lobby is clean and presentable, etc.

(There is a half hour dinner break, which is unpaid. Other than that, staff are expected to stand at the desk for the full 8-hour shift, which is physically tiring as well.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your staff. Staff members are unhappy and dissatisfied, and until you start listening to their complaints, you will continue to lose valuable employees. Stop playing favorites and promoting unqualified staff members. Protect and mentor the employees who truly want to succeed.

I have been working at Hampton Inn full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

40 hours a week. 5 days paid vacation per year, and a decent employee discount when traveling.

    Cons

No health benifits, no sick days. Inept management. Very small staff. Management creates a hostle work invironment, which creates very high turn over. As of now there are only 3 employees in the whole building who know how to do their jobs. We are in a state of constant training... but as soom as a new hire gets trained, they quit due to unreasonable management. We must work all three shifs 3 to 11, 11 to 7, 7 to 11, sometimes all in a row. If you need a sick day you must find your own replacement, but with a nonexistant staff, you cant. The managers don't even use proper time cards half the time and half the staff was short 8 to 16 hours this week. The managers won't even look into it until some, unspecified time in the future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit wearing blinders! Listen to you people. Management and Employees are a sybiotic relationship. One cannot survive without the other. The managers know this but refuse to make it a two way street.

I have been working at Hampton Inn

    Pros

I like the brand, its just the management at this particular location.

    Cons

Again the brand is fine its just poor management at this location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to review their choices in managers at this hotel. Neither one comes out of the office and has no idea how to even develop a team, they wont deal with guest or even answer their phones. I simply cannot believe it. A very bad place to work, negative work environment wtih very poor leadership.

I have been working at Hampton Inn

    Pros

The only pro is that this job is convenient for college students due to flexible scheduling.

    Cons

    No Breaks
    Standing on Feet for 8hrs
You are Treated Like a Dog
    No Communication
No OverTime will be given for the hours work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I feel as though the employer should take more time to recognize and appreciate their employees for their wonderful work. This employer is more selfish than any other employer Ive known, The Employer needs to be fair in the bonus and pay rates they give out. Being that this is a full time job and high end job. The employers should be offered paid vacations, personal and sick days when needed and also the option to obtain insurance. Also this employer should have more than one person working on each shift in order to provide top quality customer service. I feel as though the employer should also stick to her word and not play favoritism towards certain employees and their privileges.
