ProsGood overall company to work for. Very employee and family friendly. OK benefits.
The employees of Hanger are great and care about the company!

ConsCareer planning is not a strength of Hanger. You can become stagnant if you do not express your professional desires. Not a real dedication to employee education

Top of the line prosthetics & Orthotics company

Office Administrator (Former Employee) Spring Valley, NY

ProsThe people are great to work with. The environment is faced paced and challenging, but there is ample support. One can also transfer to other locations throughout the country which makes relocating much simpler.

ConsThe training environment was insufficient. The salary was competitive but not amazing. Benefits were OK. The offices are small, so if one does not get along with other members of the team it can be very stressful.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe product is amazing, however there are inconsistencies between offices. Training team members could be done a lot better.

    Leader of the pack

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsEmpowering Human Potential. Very true statement. Everything in this company is geared toward that goal of giving someone their ability back.

ConsIt's a shame to see that the IT staff is worked harder than most. The expectation is that you will give up everything for the company. Your time, your family, etc. I've seen too many solid individuals leave because of it.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou should take a look at the turnover rate within each of your departments.

good healthcare company and mostly good team of people

    Developer (Current Employee) Austin, TX

    Proscompany mission
    team of people
    lot of Interesting projects
professional office space with great location and new cube design
    cio is also app director

Consif the company could change in 4 areas it would be improved
health benefits could be better for a company r size so could 401k matching
no tuition reimbursement or payment for technical certifications
not enough funding of IT to put in systems the company needs
IT managers - cio is the most approachable visible friendly and honest executives i have met. i have never seen a cio talking to people directly on a daily basis before and many of us find it fun and refreshing. but the downside in IT is it has a few managers are unhappy and are bad influences on people. they are deliberately trying to undermine the other leaders. this group is actively getting others to go to this site to post negative things about IT and the leaders. a couple of the group were let go a manager and pm but 2 managers and other need to be let go too. not a surprise who everyone knows who they are.

Advice to Senior Managementadvice to the ceo. you hold employee meetings to voice r opinions and comments, but do nothing with the information. developmental opportunities such as tuition reimbursement and technical certifications reimbursement and increases in IT investment have been discussed in all of those meetings. what have you done to address?

    Just my opinion.

Office Administrator (Current Employee) Rochester, NY

ProsVery solid company. Oldest and largest maker of prosthetics and orthotics in USA (world?). Has established different levels of management right through to the top. Opportunity to interact with many different states/cities/sites and attend annual Education Fair. Bonuses are paid (dependent upon certain criteria being met) and special commissions are paid (based on certain devices being sold). Company has rock-solid reputation in their field. For the most part, training is extensive and company has manuals to look to for answers when necessary. Weekly "newspaper" is published and often addresses ongoing issues within the field. Quarterly teleconferences are held by President to update employees on health and growth of the company.

ConsThe last person on the totem pole has a difficult time communicating needs (and having problems looked into). While the ability to ask questions, seek help, etc. is available, that does not always translate into successful resolutions. Because company is national, they do not involve locals in discussions regarding local insurance carriers and tend to make generalized decisions regarding compensation. While I can appreciate a national company being more interested in national companies such as Cigna and Travelers, local carriers are extremely important for Hanger offices and shouldn't be ignored or given fleeting glances. Some offices, of which there are approximately 650, are quite small and, thus, are dependent upon management located elsewhere to help out/teach/mentor. No merit raises are paid, at least that I'm aware of, and annual pay raises (approximately 3%) are supposedly based on cost-of-living. Profit-and-loss statements for individual offices/areas are rarely shared. Clinical and clerical supplies are lumped together and that can make for difficult budgeting. I'm sure fiscal growth is extremely important but I would like to hear more emphasis being placed on patient needs.

Advice to Senior ManagementAcknowledge with positive feedback those employees/offices which have improved performance as opposed to only addressing the negative. Allow employees in offices which have little growth to spend time with employees/offices which continue to have positive growth. While there are general rules to follow, each office appears to have different ways of interpreting how to follow those rules and it would be of benefit to employees to be able to see how an efficient and profitable office is run.
