    Good for entry-level positions

    Retail Clerk (Former Employee)

ProsThe company is mid-sized but growing, so it is more personal than larger hardware companies. On the first day, I met the District Manager for the region and he actually helped us set up the new store. I got a great sense of community from this company.

ConsThe management of a new store was a bit unorganized. I wasn't aware of scheduling until a day or two before, which proved to be inconvenient.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

my experience at harbor freight tools was new and exciting.

    Warehouse Associate (Current Employee)
    Baton Rouge, LA

Prosbest reason to work there is because the workers are great and the atmosphere is even better as well as the benefits and extras to earn extra pay and advancements.

Conssome of the challenges of working here are some of the unsatisfied customers you may encounter.

Advice to Senior Managementkeep up the good work.

Good experience, ability to move up

    Anonymous (Current Employee)

ProsGood pay for managers, most of your coworkers are usually pretty good. Company has vast expansion in it's future which means lots of opportunity.

ConsLots of change, always a new directive coming down from corporate. Must be willing to throw out the old (even if the old just started this week) and begin the new.

Advice to Senior ManagementOur people are our best resource. We need to make sure they are ready to move up as well.

    Good job, bad customers

    Assistant Head Cashier (Current Employee)

Pros- above minimum wage, with commission and annual raises

    - willing to hire young people with little or no experience; it's s good entry level job- started when I was 16.

    - job stability. As long as you do what your told and hold your tongue with customers you're pretty set.

    - lots of room to move up in the company. I'm only 18 and I was promoted to management within my second year with the company.

-great management team, good co-workers, fun job when working with the right people.

    -flexible schedules

Cons- very many rude and disrespectful customers. I'm a young girl and I've been cussed at, threatened, and verbally harassed by many customers(name calling, screaming, very inappropriate sexual comments, etc.)

    - management doesn't properly enforce policies

-very hard work. Sales are driven a little too hard and if an employee does something wrong not only do they get punished but so does the MOD.

    - I work at a very busy store with only 4 registers and our request for more registers keeps getting refused.

    - lots of hour cuts and often understaffed because of budget

Advice to Senior ManagementI suggest branching out to more forms of advertisement. Associates are already asked to do so much and name collection is very frustrating for both the employees and the customers. Also, policies regarding coupons, restock fees, and returns need to be more strictly enforced so that customers don't expect us to make exceptions.

Excellent place to work, the management team is one of the best !

    Cashier (Current Employee)
    Hickory, NC

ProsThey are really understanding when you have difficulties and will work around the schedules if you have another job! The managers are excellent human beings and they have a positive attitude almost all the time. We have opportunities to add a little extra money to our paycheck and they do their best to keep the working team united! Everyone is considerate and we all do our best to help each other, that's a great working environment, it makes you feel more like a family. The products are really good and the prices are super, which makes it really easy to appeal the customer.

ConsWhen things are slow at the store, hours go too low, from 25-28 hours to 5-10 hours a week. Sometimes we are really short handed to manage a whole day shift, specially on the warehouse crew, which makes the rest of the team overworked.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement team can do better at organizational efforts when it has to do with everyday schedules.

Good managers and great place to work.

    Cashier/Sales (Former Employee)

ProsClear objectives from managers with a good crew. Excellent product group. Opportunity to make extra monies available, but limited. Especially when we all work part time. The crew were a diverse and good group with whom to work.

ConsLimited advancement opportunities. There is a store manager, 2 assistant managers, a head supervisor - cashier, and 2 assistant head cashiers. Pay rate and raises were low; e.g. I had an excellent review and was given a $0.130 raise from $9.050 starting salary.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen offering a raise (during) employee sign on, keep your word or explain in clear concise terms why a raise that was promised cannot be given at that time.
