    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Group leaders need formal training and their own offices. Promote big thinkers not big egos.

    Pros

Lots of opportunity and a good crowd

    Cons

Red tape. There is a good ol' boy network that's tough to break.

I have been working at Harris full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I love working with the people. The long timers are truly awesome and very personable.

    Cons

Processes need refinement. Too little guidance. Not enough caring about the trenches to create and enforce policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share more information. Focus on the details of how we create information and not having to reinvent the wheel. Establish metrics across the board, measure them and hold people accountable when they don't meet the metric.

I have been working at Harris full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked at two divisions within the company in Melbourne, FL. Good people and teams. Managers really listen and try to place you on projects you're most interested in. You just have to be vocal and persistent.

    Cons

Raises after the new grad program are low around 2%. Pretty competitive to get high performance ratings since you're surrounded by talented and intelligent people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More perks and work-life balance as well as opportunities for leadership.

    Cons

Benefits are being cut at an alarming rate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More focus on employees is necessary to retain talent.

    Pros

Work-life balance (9/80 work schedule), lots of young people, all employees are all very nice and welcoming

    Cons

Lot of process to get anything done, lack of diversity in employees (a result of only being able to hire US citizens)

Current Employee - Quality Engineer in Palm Bay, FL

I have been working at Harris full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fantastically innovative environment, developing cutting edge tech.

    Cons

Managers who are empire builders instead of team leaders and innovators. All too often standing in the way of employee growth, development and movement within the organization to retain their control. Many times advancing individuals into management roles that have no clear aptitude, vision for forward progress, general management savvy, effective communication or people skills. Just because you are an intelligent engineer does make you effective business management material.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than keeping a myopic view of company needs in relation to the career development of employees, you could save a tremendous amount of investment and excellent employee turnover by just rewarding and retaining your best and brightest, with promotion compensation and recognition.
