  1.

Good pay but Supervisors and Store Managers are pressured to be overly critical.

I have been working at Harris Teeter for more than 10 years

    Pros

The pay was great but as the years pass the harder it was to receive a raise.

    Cons

Store managers are over worked and not trained to work with people. The smaller the town (Rock Hill, SC) and the further from the Corporate office the worse the store managers and Co managers are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people the way you want to be treated! Simple but a concept that is hard for some to comprehend!

  2.

Decent entry-level job, but little incentive to excel.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good initial training leaves all associates prepared to succeed upon being initially hired. Management has also always been flexible with me when working around another job and personal time.

    Cons

Two promotions in my first six months of employment that added significant responsibilities and led to a less convenient schedule structure were regarded as lateral moves which did not merit pay increases. Any position lower than manager of a department is paid according to experience rather than merit, which can be frustrating to a new employee who desires to excel.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The company, as a whole, tries to take care of it's employees.

    Cons

If you are unfortunate enough to get a store manager that is less than stellar, you are out of luck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't give so much power to store managers.

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay and benefits are good.

    Cons

Too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Constant fear of corporate visits and audits keeps everyone on edge. Store management passes these on to everyone else. Threats of write-ups on a daily basis. So much so that good people lose their initiative. Do as I say and don't think on your own mentality. Corporate and upper management treat the stores as their personal pantries. They force you to carry products that only they buy and then come down on you when your waste is high. Have also seen several people lied to and made promises that never came true by corporate. Not many happy people in the stores. Changes need to be made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend less time nit picking your stores. Have some faith and trust in your associates. Take notice how many of your people are unhappy. The pay is all that people stay for.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Flexible scheduling, fun people to work with. Good part-time job for high schoolers. Offered a program where students who went off to college could come back on breaks and holidays.

    Cons

Could be overly boring during slow nights. Management made you stand at the end of your register and basically do nothing when there were no chores, and talking to co-workers was frowned upon during these down times.

The assessments are slightly difficult for some who does not speak fluent english

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Stable growth, biannual profit sharing, medical insurance, decent hours.
Good managers really make a difference in the entire store
Opportunities in the whole store for work and growth.

    Cons

Stores are either really slow with not enough employees or too busy with not enough employees.
Most of the management is not prepared or keen on leading a store with diverse associates and needs.
The whole company thrives on "on the job training" , managers are VERY unconcerned with employees being prepared for their job and more concerned with yelling at them for not getting their work done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retrain managers in managing and people relations.
Take an earnest interest in training your employees rather than freaking out that the district manager MIGHT come by.
Not being able to work with employees for BASIC or FAMILY needs for time off is a big problem.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Harris Teeter has many locations to choose from. The public opinion of this growing company is very positive because the stores are clean, the customer service is excellent, and the store managers regularly engage and interact with their patrons.

    Cons

The hourly wage is not competitive at Harris Teeter. You could earn the same wage or more working with other retailers. I came to Harris Teeter with a college degree wanting to work part-time and they only offered slightly more than minimum wage.

Worked with a Great group of people that were fun to be around.
Gained responsibilities pretty fast so there's opportunities to develop yourself.
    Bonus Checks!!!
    Annual raise

    Cons

Can be alot of work at times.
Can be understaffed at times to cut costs.
May get called in if too understaffed, throwing a wrench in personal plans outside of work.
