    Pros

Clean, Organized store, the managers are helpful. The customers are easier in a upscale facility. The wide variety of everything they offer is amazing and it is easy to help customers find what they are looking for.

    Cons

Scheduling requirements and constantly cutting workers hours weekly to meet those requirements. Competitive wages for grocery stores, but still isn't very much money.

Decent hourly rate for starting job ad constantly increases with time.
Flexible hours and great customer service.
Job was easy and great way to start working.

    Cons

    Long hours of standing around.
    Lot of heavy lifting.
    Rude customers
the breaks were sometimes not great because if you worked during a busy time then you might not get a break but i think that varies from manager to manager.

    Pros

Room for advancement, supportive management, good pay. bonus checks are great, very family friendly, good training.

    Cons

Understaffed at times, insurance is costly, too many HR hoops to jump through in order to fire lazy employees. Can be difficult to gain full time status. A lot of uncertainty with recent Kroger merger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open to trusting stores to manage themselves versus micro managing from the corporate level.

    Pros

I enjoyed working at Harris Teeter for the time that I did. It was a fast paced job that had room for growth and rewarded hard working employees

    Cons

They work days were sometimes pretty long and they scheduled a lot of weekends which could get annoying sometimes. Some employees don't care and it makes working with them a challenge

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who are decent employees. Most of my co workers were great but some of them were terrible people that made everyone else's job harder.

    Pros

I like how much training is involved in learning the grocery/ perishable industry. They really make sure you have a good mentor, and are ready for the next level before promoting you.

    Cons

Even if you have an advanced degree, you have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Also, working in the stores doesn't easily translate to working in the corporate office, even if you have a degree in business or IT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the store managers are doing a great job. It can be very stressful on the front-lines, so I only suggest that they try to stay happy at work. Negative attitudes trickle down faster than happy ones, and bad attitudes can have tremendous effects on sales.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The best reason to work here is the people I really enjoy seeing the regulars come back week after week. I also enjoy helping customers it makes me feel good seeing them walk away with a simile knowing that I just served them excellent customer service.

    Cons

The only bad thing about Harris Teeter is the pay as a customer service clerk there are alot of duties to perform and I don't believe that making $8.20 is enough

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe that management should understand how much that we actually work and appreciate it a little bit more. I can tell that the managers that were former customer service managers appreciate us clerks more than a manager that has came from a different position. I also believe to be a manager, that they should be able to perform almost every single function in the store, but most of the time managers can't hardly do anything on the front end except for the basics.
