    Pros

Incredibly talented people who are always giving their best and helping you accomplish your goals. The company is in a good position to achieve success.

    Cons

Depending on the assignment, some task may become repetitive and sometimes communication between different teams can be complicated.

I have been working at Healthline full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Exciting Industry
    Really nice people
    Really smart people
    Great office location
Benefits - both standard and fringe - are excellent
    Solid leadership across the board

    Cons

Growing pains. Again, I can't complain too much.
I hate it when my friends get taken away by big companies like Apple and Google, but clearly Healthline a a great place to be!

Hot Company in a hot industry

    • Culture & Values

I have been working at Healthline

    Pros

    - Solid growth in a growing industry
    - Seasoned executive team backed by a strong, engaged board of directors
    - Strong Engineering team; other teams (SEO, Product, Ad Sales, Editorial, etc) also strong
    - Unique technology and data has enabled the company to score powerful partnerships with major brand name companies
    - Most engineers have an opportunity to significantly increase their skills

    Cons

    - As with most companies of this size, there is a constant struggle between the number of projects pursued versus the resources able to deliver, often on tight deadlines.
    - Despite these (very real) challenges, work-life balance is better than most, and there is relatively low turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Keep pursuing the ground-breaking deals and let go of some of the smaller, less important ones. Despite the well-worn cliche, the customer is not always right :-)

I have been working at Healthline full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Company has two divisions, both of which are growing.
    - The media business (website) produces great content for consumers. Much better referenced and easier-to-read than other competitors.
    - The licensing business has a world-class health taxonomy -- they've won lots of big companies as clients: GE, United Healthcare, Microsoft, Aetna, Yahoo!, etc.

    Cons

Being a small company that is competing in 2 different markets (licensing to big companies and ad-supported consumer health media) does put a strain on resources. As the company has grown and become more successful (and operates the divisions more separately), the product and engineering tradeoffs have lessened, though.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the companies progress in two different businesses is great...but really hard for most employees to keep up with. Recently there has been better communication on what's going on in each business -- keep that up!

I have been working at Healthline full-time

    Pros

Seasoned and nimble team, very strong team lead, working on diverse and interesting projects, leadership is enabling and cares about building their staff's careers. I feel lucky to be here.

    Cons

More transparency from the top would be nice. This has gotten better, but for much of my time here I felt like senior leadership didn't have a solid plan, or at least one that was communicated clearly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep finding ways to make the A-players happy. Hire better people. If you want your staffers to invest in Healthline, then you need to invest more them.

    Pros

Healthline is a Health IT company with significant technical assets and IP. They are developing very cool products for a huge, growing industry.

One of their 'products' is a consumer web site driven by ad revenue. I think a lot of reviewers mistakenly assume the web site is the whole company. There is so much more to Healthline - they have very complex data driven products - and I felt empowered to be a part of health solutions that are attractive to diverse health companies.

Overall, it's a fun place to develop interesting technology.

I loved the location(!) and the people.

    Cons

The company is in transition right now which can be unsettling for people without experience in aggressive tech-focused companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on defining and delivering products and managing (great) people.

I have been working at Healthline full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I had a very good experience working at Healthline, During my employment I worked on dozens of unique projects alongside a variety of different teams. I found my co-workers to be professional, creative, talented, and hard working individuals which was key to our project success. Healthline offers very good employee benefits and the company takes the extra step to make sure there are fun social activities scheduled each month to bring everyone together. The office space is always clean, the kitchen is well stocked with snacks, and they welcome dogs, too!

    Cons

This is more of a statement than a con. The company has grown considerably in the past few years so with that comes inevitable growing pains. A fast-paced environment is not for everyone. The Executive team instituted brown-bag lunches (regularly scheduled) to encourage an open dialogue between the staff and the executives. This gives everyone the equal chance to get involved, share ideas, ask questions, celebrate company/team wins and also provides the Execs with an opportunity to talk about plans on the horizon. For those who were unhappy I hope you find a more suitable fit. As for the rest of the folks still employed with Healthline, I wish you continued success!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep those regular brown-bag lunches going. They really make a difference.

    Pros

Strongly positioned in the marketplace, well-staffed at every level of the org, incredible technology under the hood, multiple lines of biz.

    Cons

Ability to do anything can sometimes lead to trying everything, previous weak spots in key leadership roles - been corrected recently, could use more women in leadership positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus first, then execute. Empower folks at every level of the organization to impact the future - good ideas can come from anywhere.

    Pros

Real opportunities to effect change and process that will contribute to the company's continued rate of growth. Collaborative work environment with a team of dedicated professionals who want the company to succeed.

    Cons

The company is achieving success on so many levels that it can sometimes be difficult to address each and every opportunity. Which priority is the first among equals?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We compete, not so much against an opponent, but against ourselves. The real test is this: Did I make my best effort on every play?
