I worked at Heartland Health full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

It is a better than minimum wage job. Those are few and far between in Saint Joseph, MO and offers tuition assistance if you are lucky.

    Cons

Inadequate staffing-always understaffed, management never available. Dept head more interested in playing with the boss than running the department. Rules interpreted to fit the situation or employees. One you fire someone for becoming dangerously ill at work you have a real problem. When you don't discipline other employees for not getting this person the help needed you have an even bigger problem. Aren't hospitals supposed to be kind, caring and compassionate? This is a hospital trying desperately to be one of the big boys and failing badly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. Learn your department, learn what happens in each area. Work in the different areas, don't just walk through and say "Hi, how is it going."

They work what they can get out of you, for the least amount of money, then toss you out like trash.

I worked at Heartland Health full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My coworkers created a very supportive environment.

    Cons

Micromanaging officers are given the power to do whatever they want, without question or accountability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

List to employee surveys. If an officer gets repeated low scores, it's for a reason and shold be investigated.

Simply the WORST company I ever worked for

    I worked at Heartland Health

    Pros

Good benefits is about the only positive thing I can say about the company

    Cons

For a company that is in the end-of-life care business, they do not practice what they preach for their employees. Highly disfunctional management and senior management, no belief in or committment to a work-life balance for their employees and simply the most toxic professional environment I have ever had the misfortune to be employed by.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all the management and start over.
