I worked at Heartland Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and work-life balance. People are at least nice to your face.

    Cons

Pay below Kansas City. Management will throw you under the bus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be mentors perhaps and help the employees grow?

I have been working at Heartland Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Heartland has been a very good place to work for most of my years here. The benefits are great with a top-notch wellness program that provides 2 fitness centers, personal training, access to dietitians, health screenings, and educational classes all for FREE! There is also the potential to earn bonuses each quarter. Many of the people are very friendly, and up until recently, I have felt like those in management cared about me and my well-being.

    Cons

Things have definitely been changing around here over the past year or two. A ton of work and money have been spent in areas that are not necessarily working out, and the rest of us are pinching pennies. We have even been told to watch how many post-it notes we are using! People who leave are not being replaced, so it is creating a high level of stress for many departments. Micromanaging is out of control. People are being told at a very detailed level how to look, how to speak, how to create materials, and even how to think. Those who do not fit into their mold are reprimanded and/or fired. You certainly aren't allowed to have a bad day here, or if you are, you had better put a plastic smile on your face and fake it!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I understand the changes that have been happening in health care and that money is getting tighter, but there is no reason to take away the autonomy of your employees.

I have been working at Heartland Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, good pay. Heartland is leading the way in care management and community outreach. They are well prepared for the changes in healthcare laws. Heartland does well with community partnerships.

    Cons

Poor leadership. Expectations are set beyond what is possible with the tools provided to staff; this leads to low moral.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to your workforce.

I have been working at Heartland Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great care- care givers are determined on best possible outcomes. The pay is good for Saint Joseph standards but well below Kansas City wages. The hospital and most of the clinics are top notch facilities.

    Cons

Low pay for the hardest working employees. Middle management and nurses runs business aspects of the organization that they are not trained to handle. Too much group think mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce middle management - clinic managers, team leaders etc... Clinics should ultimately be ran by providers.

I worked at Heartland Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are exceptional! (This is not a compliment to HR)
Working with people who have a calling for healing. Making an impact in our community.
Ahead of most healthcare systems in terms of reform and business structure.

    Cons

Executive team. It is obvious to senior leadership that the executives are not functioning as a team. A few determine the fate of all. Closed minded and controlling to a fault. Abuse of number reporting to further independent agenda. "Preaches" one way of leadership and lives another less productive way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Until executive leadership works together by listening to one another and collaborating, you will not succeed. This downward spiral of the Heartland culture will continue and your customers/patients will notice resulting in negative reviews.

I have been working at Heartland Health full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The company does have decent health insurance and available resources to improve one's health and work toward health goals.

    Cons

salaries for hourly professionals tend to be in the bottom 10% compared to the median salary for a profession according to labor statistics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you truely desire to become the employer of choice adjust your hourly employee wages to be more in line with national statistics. The hourly employee is the face of your company and if the public sees frustration, worry, stress, and exhaustion what kind of an image do you think they will have?

    Pros

Heartland provides great benefits and personal time off (PTO) builds quickly.

Big separation between normal employees and higher paid staff.

I have been working at Heartland Health

    Pros

The residents at the facility make the job worth working at, because they keep me on my toes. If it weren't for them, i do not think i would have been here this long.

    Cons

There is not much communications there at all. Sometimes the employees, especially the CNA's are left in the dark on many issues concerning the admission of new residents. Also, the nurses are always sitting at the desk and if you ask for a hand in something, they look as if you said something wrong to them.
