I worked at Heinz full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There was a steady stream of work to keep the plant going. The plant management team was great, however as the buy out was approaching, things were changing fast.
A great team of fellow employees who are worked together for over 25 years.

    Cons

There was no concern of some of the skills people had. It became a fact of "who knew who" for what really happened there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring the company back to the old days and provide the service that build Heinz to what they were.

I worked at Heinz full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Quick promotions
    Huge bonus
    cool downtown Pittsburgh office
Ambition is rewarded if backed by results
Saw the company transform completely in two years from a good place to work to very competitive
I learned a lot in my two years here. However I was a unique case and the company is no longer marketing centric.

    Cons

    Private equity owned
    Arbitrary decisions
    Management plays favorites
Expected to work very long hours

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find employees willingly to work long hours and be on the job 24/7. Needs to be more communication about organizational changes.

I have been working at Heinz full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Top practices in continuous improvement and quality systems

    Cons

Historically hesitant to let go of slackers, and some folks seem to "fail up". Bad attitudes within the company are just part of culture.

    Great Place

I worked at Heinz full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people, great atmosphere, great benefits, excellent products, great exposure. My manager was excellent. He afforded me a great deal of latitude and I was empowered to develop myself and my career.

    Cons

3G capital. They came in and gutted the place. Heinz went from a vibrant collaborative company with excellent resources. 3G changed all that. The company is now cut to the bone. Shame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not cut too deep. The buyout by Berkshire and 3G was supposed to elevate the company. Instead you are making things more difficult.

I have been working at Heinz full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great team - not all functions are the same
    Flexible working environment

    Cons

Inconsistent performance review system - this has changed a little too often
Management change and high turn over means very people know what they are doing at the moment
Too many things changing at the same time is causing too much distractions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to make employees feel valued
Clearly define Meritocracy and what goals individuals need to accomplish to get to the next level

I have been working at Heinz full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with at factory level. Many great to work with still at the corporate level. It WAS a culture that helped to build people into better employees.

    Cons

Not sure the new owners are really trying to understand what we do at the factory level. Food safety and USDA policies aren't really understood by 3G. Or maybe they just don't care. Like many still working at Heinz. I am uncertain of my future. This is very distracting to me and my ability to perform my duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. If you want to build Heinz to a bigger better company...walk the talk. Build jobs and growth. Don't cut jobs to increase your personal profits. Most people really want to do a good job and will work hard if given some security.
