I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time

    Pros

The pros of working at Helzberg Diamonds in exactly what they stand for. They truly want help the buyer feel like Helzberg is a jewelry store clients can trust. This company is part of GIA (Gemological Institute of America) which is why this store does not raise prices to later on apply 20%, 50% discounts like other retailers may do and in the end the purchaser may pay more even after so many discounts are applied. The pay may be can be great as it depends if you go to a high volume store OR a low volume store. Benefits are great for full timers, you will receive dental, vision, health insurance, paid vacation. If you show productivity you will receive more hours and then again the more you sell the more money in your pocket. You may find a second family

    Cons

The cons of working at Helzberg Diamonds -Some store managers speak about associate's performance behind the associates' s back to other non management associates. This includes comments like, "I will fire him/her", "I think there's something wrong in his/her head", "He/ she is too young", etc. This list can go on with more comments and verbal comments like that. - There may be limited room for growth -Some store managers lie to customers about return policies and diamond quality to avoid returns and get more sales volume. The cons shown above are from the store worked and NOT about all the stores of the company. Helzberg Diamonds can definitely be an amazing company to work for as I worked for a manager in the past that preached values like honesty which is exactly what Helzberg Diamonds stands for. This manager made sure the store always had a friendly competition as it is commissioned based while also making goals for the store.

    Advice to Management

-The first thing they teach you at Helzberg is the 8 Step of Selling. The first step is PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), comments like the ones shown above definitely put anyone's PMA very low therefore you will have an associate that does not perform numbers. -As a manager be part of the team, be a leader, don't just stay behind the scenes. If you want your team to sell big, show them you can sell big as well by being honest to your customers and employees.

    Pros

Great location. I previously worked at the Barton Creek Square location, everything was convenient, food counter was across the hall. Great traffic and more customers with willingness to buy.

    Cons

Bad work/life balance. Very bad schedule especially if you are more experienced because you are needed all the time. This cause conflict with other things in your life.

    Advice to Management

Improve trainings to new staff and adjust pay accordingly

I have been working at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I love the culture of this company as far as our customers are concerned, we have access to so much more than some of our major competitors which makes selling a little less difficult, we are owned by Berkshire Hathaway therefore we will remain leaving a strong impression on our customers and continue making strides in the business world, and we are one of the very few companies that are apart of the AGS.

    Cons

Very slow to respond to stores who need assistance, pay is inadequate for even our lower sales positions, and the company has too many gray areas when dealing with customer service.

    Advice to Management

Keep praising your team because no matter how hard you worked to get where you are, your team is a big part of that!

    Pros

I was fortunate to have a caring and driven store manager, and an amazing team to work with at my location. Good leadership and teamwork equals maximum positive experience and maximum income potential for both company and person. Not all store locations have this team harmony, and I covered shifts in more than one location. Persistence, positive attitude and patience needed to meet sales goals. Company values and training are good, especially if you put in the work to improve yourself and you have a good manager to mentor you in the first 6 months. Product is average to very good quality; diversity of product is decent in my opinion. The employee discounts are great!

    Cons

Time-off is difficult because there are "black days" on the calendar around the holidays (especially October - January 1st) in which no employee is allowed to schedule off. However, throughout the rest of the year they are rather flexible with your schedule. If you do not hit certain sales goals, they sometimes require a meeting very early in the morning (6:30am) somewhere in your region that can be over a 2 hour drive. Another negative aspect would be the compensation...it is quite lower than several other jewelry stores (unless you're a store general manager) and the raises and commission are not substantial, yet you will work just as hard.

    Advice to Management

Go easier on staff for being barely off from their sales goals. You can't control every return item from a customer. Switch from an individual sales goal approach to a team-based sales goal in which commission gets split amongst the team...this would encourage less competition and more teamwork and sales growth.

    Pros

Higher base pay then competitor beautiful decor health care 100%preventative is coverered.

    Cons

Commission is a starting on.5 max on 3% almost impossible to reach speaking from a elite that has great history of sales success

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the common denominater!!! in a " souther region" when half a dozen previously successful tenured managers and freshly recruited talent quit all in a few months time maybe you should look into why!

I worked at Helzberg Diamonds full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are good, training is excellent, had the opportunity to work with some truly excellent people. Good performance is rewarded and if you desire moving into management, the path is pretty clear. It can be a very good company to get sales training and management experience but you have to work hard.

    Cons

Work/life balance is non existent. Work all holidays and weekends...it is retail. Depends on the store but generally, time off is not very generous since it is a sales environment and you pretty much need to be there constantly to hit targets.
