    Pros

great training, higher management support, opportunities for advancement

    Cons

retail work so you will have to work weekends and holidays (black out period during holidays)

    Advice to Management

If you are investing in an associate, make sure they are given a priority for advancement instead of going outside.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule. Hourly pay plus commissions and bonuses based on store performance. Professional work environment. Getting to help people celebrate special occasions makes this is a fun job.

    Cons

It does require nights, weekends and holidays, but that's also why it's so flexible. Expectations are high. You do have a sales target and held accountable for achieving several metrics.

    Advice to Management

Encourage team work and cultivate a positive environment. Happy employees are more productive and customers can tell when the team works well together.

    Pros

Managerial stuff is one of the best i have worked with. All the employees are very polite. Most of the employees are there over 10 years. Variety of IT tools to work with. If you are in IT, you have chance to experience other environments than your usual ones! Backed by Berkshire-Hathaway

    Cons

Most of the employees are there over 10 years. Now, this may sound positive but it also have negative effect, especially on IT department. Because People there for very long, they have developed personal approach on the projects they worked on. And it sometimes deviate from the usual concept you worked previously. if your group you are in is efficient of information sharing, you are fine but my experience was the other way around. I had to figure out most of the stuff by myself all the way from beginning. most of the time it was very frustrating because you spend a lot of time on something that could'v been explained by your coworker just using the common sense.

    Advice to Management

New comers should be educated for the environment by their coworkers. Some official updated Documents to keep everything current and educating newly joined stuff would be very useful!

    Pros

Within your own store location, the work enviroment was more like a family. They offer benefits and employee discounts, and generally have flexible work schedules (according your your store's needs.)

    Cons

The commissions are less than what I've experienced at other jewelers. The hours are typical in terms of retail, so expect to work holidays and upwards of 50 hours during the month of December and other "gifting" holidays.

    Advice to Management

Consider making the commissions worth it. I've worked for another jeweler since then, and have a BASE commission of 2%, PLUS spiffs on care plans. I can't believe that for so long (6 years in fact) I thought Helzberg was the best company to work for in the industry. Not so much.

    Pros

5 weeks of vacation, strong culture, competitive individual sales and bonus as well at team bonus potential. They promote from within and like to grow their people. They reimburse for GIA and AGS training and select candidates each year for upper management training. New pay structure offers more raises for doing the whole job and growing sales.

    Cons

Growing pains with technology and maintaining the stores physical appearance. Lack of testing on new systems often leads to problems at store level. Merchandise quality is dropping to the level of typical mall stores to be more competitive, less of the high end items that they have previously carried. Schedule is demanding and growing more demanding every month and year, especially at store and regional level.

    Advice to Management

Removing support management and growing tasks has changed the role of all store level employees to make it more difficult to focus on sales. The disarray in updating systems, web sites, and ipads needs to stop. Test it, test it longer, make adjustments, test it again, make a realistic timeline on installation, communicate. If every project you start is behind or has so many problems you can't keep up, don't start more projects. Great dynamic people need a social and family life, even with retail hours it is possible to have a life. Consider adding a benefit to balance out the growing demands of longer hours and more days during the "special" events that have been added in the last few years.

    Pros

Jewelry is a rewarding career and having the management that I do, makes it even better. Success is rewarded from a store level and corporately. Lots of training provided and possibilities for growth if you want to stay at the store level. Pay is decent, although I have been offered more from competitors, however, work environment has a lot to do with happiness and I would rate my store an A+.

    Cons

Personal growth is limited if you do not want to be at the store level.

    Advice to Management

It is important for regionals to invest in actual trainings with their managers instead of just bi yearly lectures. Take good managers and allow for opportunities to cross-train with other managers, this will allow for development on both sides.

    Pros

The company has a very generous employee discount, they take the time to educate you on precious metals, stones and diamonds and the industry is always changing so the work day is forever interesting.

    Cons

little room for work-life balance, TO rules have too much room for interpretation and can be stressful on sales associates

    Pros

    - Loved my coworkers, product, and training. The people really made this job enjoyable. I loved that the product was not as commercialized like their competitors.

    Cons

The pay and commission were horrible. We were a smaller store, so we barely made any commission. The work life balance was also not good.
