I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Easy work environment. No pressure from looming deadlines (at least in my department). Everything gets done in its own time. Friendly people.

Nice benefits package - Dental, Medical, Vision, 401k

Paid time off is offered and is standard for most corporations of this size.

They do a lot of theme days, company 5k runs, charity events. Lots of ways to give back to the community.

    Cons

Leadership is non-existent. No one takes responsibility or tries to lead their staff to new levels of personal and career growth. There's no room to grow b/c everyone in management has been here for 15+ years and is never leaving their pointless cushy job. It's pretty much you do what you're assigned until we ask you to do more....which brings me to....

Their lame attempt to promote career growth and satisfaction: MBO's. These are "goals" you are to reach throughout the year to justify your raise and/or bonus.

Each MBO ends up being a cleverly worded and exaggerated statement of what you already do. Because no one in their right mind want's to take on more work if they're not getting the salary to compensate.

For all the talk about how Henry Schein cares about people, they seem to only care about other people outside of the company. We never close early when it's bad weather. Even if it's a blizzard!

Day after Christmas? when half the country is off work?....you better believe we're open!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the dead weight and employees who don't want to learn and progress. Trim down departments and offer individuals the chance to take on more responsibility with proper compensation.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Community Service is a plus. Ted Philson until he passed away. Some members of the Executive team really get it. Jimmmy B is a man of integrity he is everything the company espouses with regards to the culture, leadership and a true professional .

    Cons

Low pay, long hours, bully tactics and rules by intimidation are some of the standard operation procedures within this organization. "People do not know how good they have it here", statements are often heard throughout the hallways. "Invisible hands theory" what is that? People do not believe that they can trust HR, folks feel as if they don't have anyone who will advocate for them. Diversity is minimal at best, people of color, and women are not empowered or promoted. Promotions are very slow unless you are on a "fast-track" which usually means someone has set their sites on you. Moral is artificial and manufactured by hosting large parties to act as smoke screens for what is really happening. The cultural assessment survey is laughable. "Record Breaking Profits" are the leading headlines, while folks are fearful of current talks of possible layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executives need to take a real hard look at different departments to understand why there is a high rate of turn over. Listen to the people, and don't shy away from negative or positive responses. Believe there is some validity to what people are saying and feeling. Management provides executives only the information they want to hear, and not what they need to hear. Diversity is a serious concern why are minorities occupying the majority of low paying positions? (i.e.warehouse, customer service)Minorities are prominently shown in pictures during Community Service events as recipients, but not in company photos.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Employees are genuine, benefits are good, and salaries are market average. Many opportunities once you are in.

    Cons

Top heavy company, meaning too many generals, not enough soldiers. The company caters to "Wall Street" in regard to stock price versus running the business as an independent company. Our CEO likes to say we lead the industry, which we do well, but if Wall Street is unhappy with us, we have made unnecessary sacrifices to please them. I understand the fiduciary responsibilities to the shareholders, however, the company likes to brag about employee moral (which is actually low right now). Can be very stressful at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read the cons, continue to lead the industry, focus more on your employees (and customers) more than the stock price. The TSM's are the heart of the company. The company doesn't have to have "record earnings each quarter", as long as we deliver a good product or service, and earn a profit and that's all that should count. I think Mr. and Mrs. Schein (the founders) would agree. They use to give their employees Turkeys, Baby Gifts, and many other awards to their hard working employees. I think they would embarrassed with our current senior management "stock greed".

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Outstanding benefits. The PPO here is ridiculously awesome. You get a lot of benefits no matter what your salary is.

    Cons

Tech Central is a call center first and foremost. They do technology second. If you're just getting into the industry then this is good for you, if you have experience then I would be cautious. TC does not incentivise getting certifications that are industry standard. Instead, you're encouraged to get Dell certifications. While they're important for the company - they will not help your career whatsoever

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in these employees specifically. Not only do they act as loss prevention but they create an environment around your customers of trust. Stay away from the call center mentality when mixing with I.T. Customers consider I.T. a complex process and want to speak to professionals, hiring on a call center mentality will get you short of nowhere.

    Cons

I am a salaried employee that get my pay cut if my hours are shorten but get no extra pay when my duties go into my personal time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is to make the job hourly so that the pay reflects the work done and the employee is not left working for free.

    Pros

Always busy but I don't think they do enough to hire people.

    Cons

Tuition Reimbursement is only available for salary workers and available though not guaranteed for children of TSM (Team Schein Members), just not hourly workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow benefits to be available to all workers, not only those you think who would not use them.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Good dental plan.
    Some people are nice.

    Cons

    1. Even it is 12 inch of snow out there, you have to show up to work. That is right. Even USPS does not deliver mail, you are asked to show up at this place.
    2. Management acts like they are open to suggestion, but don't believe it.
    3. If you have a veteran/professional or have years of experience, do not work here. They don't believe you. Management wants to be "scheined".
    4. Clock in and clock out. Are you kidding?
    5. If you are young, don't work here. Many old people here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing to say to them. I have tried.
