Good for 2-3 years max, salaries are wayyyy below market, a sales & mktg company run by CPA's, lawyers and finance geeks

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good experience in your 20's, very stable industries aligned with global macro healthcare trends. Tons of cash, good 401k plan match, and generally a pleasant place to work with some real nice people. Schein is a place where there are not a lot of the typical "jerks" that you find in other companies. Not high stress, good work/life balance.

    Cons

Salaries are very under market for Long Island, and all LI companies know Schein sucks for comp. It's a recruiters dream to poach good talent! If you are young, come in and do 2-3 years AT MAX otherwise you will be digging out of the salary gap for the rest of your career. Schein is a Sales & Marketing company run entirely by CPA's and finance geeks - if you're in Marketing Strategy you will be amazed there's not one single executive with any proven Marketing accomplishments. They hoard cash, make acquisitions, and cut expenses to show profit. If you're a VP - welcome to the good life! This company is so overweight on VP's and Directors. Most companies axe VP's when performance sucks, but Schein? Nope, you're golden for life! Instead, they squeeze the lower levels with crappy raises and under-market salaries. The 3rd floor is a boys club with the same few people in Stan's inner circle moving up each year. They have a wake up call coming with Amazon coming into the dental market - the boys on the 3rd floor aren't gonna like it when they see what it's like to make 10 points on everything!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clear out the useless droves of VP's and your employees will respect you a lot more. In a sales and marketing company, create a culture where you can actually use a bathroom without hitting a CPA. Be ready for Amazon, it's gonna hurt!

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Fairly good training and good benefits.

    Cons

Manager does not step up to bat when you need time off for something. They let you duke it out with dispatch.
When you are given time off for an appointment they will send you 2 hours away so you can be late and miss your appointment.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company growth at fast pace, primarily via acquisitions

    Cons

Operations. In a nutshell, the pay for ops people is low, so they hire very unintelligent people. Ops managers, service techs, it's terrible. Warehouses at centers around the country are filled with hundreds of thousands of dollars of inventory that they let depreciate since no one knows what's going on. Company managers are all addicted to email..... Literally everyday all they do is email. No person to person actual interaction. Management does not work on Fridays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come away from your email and visit the dysfunctional centers which serve your customers and get employees to tell you what's really happening. Listen to them, without checking your email.

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Socially conscious ( except for employees 1-3% yearly raise while doing $12 billion yearly sales)
    - benefits are pretty good

    Cons

    - Other than the standard holidays, no others given (ie Columbus day, Good Friday, veterans day, no Jewish holidays)
    - No clear career advancement plan
    - Constant lays off ( I have seen plenty lifers, 20+ years let go)
    - If your company is bought by Schein.. be prepared for the hammer

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow more room for personal growth. Show employees that you value them, not just lay off everyone around them and expect a optimistic environment.

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Freedom to work as you please as long as results are attained.

    Cons

Compensation. Being mickle amd dined by the company for things like shipping, account depts, etc. Tough for management as large volume reps are given too much power.

I have been working at Henry Schein

    Pros

top tier training, well known name, you aren't going into any dental office that won't know where your from. great products and services to sell. Given a reasonable base to start and plenty of time on that base. Even though large company(15,000 employees), has small company feel, upper management is extremely visible and willing to listen to anyone. they preach Family first and I learned first hand that they mean it

    Cons

In my region there was far too many FSC's, seems as though young FSC's are hired in an effort to scrub all the house accounts that dont get called on, they would like you to succeed but you are going to be given garbage accounts that no one wants (near retired, dead, sometimes empty offices)

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    No strees. Easy atmosphere friendly

    Cons

Low low pay, no motivation because so few actually care about making money. Why do your best when noone else even attempts. Great place to vegitate for 20 years. Why did I waste 10 years here
    ?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hold people accountable and reward those who do a good job with a salary in line with your counterparts. Stan needs to get head out of sand and see what truly goes on.
