    Henry Schein Houston

    EST (Former Employee)

ProsFairly good training and good benefits.

ConsManager does not step up to bat when you need time off for something. They let you duke it out with dispatch.
When you are given time off for an appointment they will send you 2 hours away so you can be late and miss your appointment.

Great company, terrible operations in field

    Regional Manager (Current Employee)
    Melville, NY

ProsCompany growth at fast pace, primarily via acquisitions

ConsOperations. In a nutshell, the pay for ops people is low, so they hire very unintelligent people. Ops managers, service techs, it's terrible. Warehouses at centers around the country are filled with hundreds of thousands of dollars of inventory that they let depreciate since no one knows what's going on. Company managers are all addicted to email..... Literally everyday all they do is email. No person to person actual interaction. Management does not work on Fridays.

Advice to Senior ManagementCome away from your email and visit the dysfunctional centers which serve your customers and get employees to tell you what's really happening. Listen to them, without checking your email.

    Glass half empty

    Contract Analyst (Former Employee)
    Melville, NY

Pros-Socially conscious ( except for employees 1-3% yearly raise while doing $12 billion yearly sales)
    - benefits are pretty good

Cons- Other than the standard holidays, no others given (ie Columbus day, Good Friday, veterans day, no Jewish holidays)
    - No clear career advancement plan
    - Constant lays off ( I have seen plenty lifers, 20+ years let go)
    - If your company is bought by Schein.. be prepared for the hammer

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow more room for personal growth. Show employees that you value them, not just lay off everyone around them and expect a optimistic environment.

    Sales rep

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsFreedom to work as you please as long as results are attained.

ConsCompensation. Being mickle amd dined by the company for things like shipping, account depts, etc. Tough for management as large volume reps are given too much power.

    Field Sales Consultant- Dental

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

Prostop tier training, well known name, you aren't going into any dental office that won't know where your from. great products and services to sell. Given a reasonable base to start and plenty of time on that base. Even though large company(15,000 employees), has small company feel, upper management is extremely visible and willing to listen to anyone. they preach Family first and I learned first hand that they mean it

ConsIn my region there was far too many FSC's, seems as though young FSC's are hired in an effort to scrub all the house accounts that dont get called on, they would like you to succeed but you are going to be given garbage accounts that no one wants (near retired, dead, sometimes empty offices)

    ProsGood exclusives, creative equipment/technology offerings

ConsManagement spends more time trying to keep veteran employees happy than helping new employees be successful

Advice to Senior ManagementDo more to help new hires succeed

Good company but no incentive to do your best

    Ops Manager (Former Employee)
    Melville, NY

    ProsNo strees. Easy atmosphere friendly

ConsLow low pay, no motivation because so few actually care about making money. Why do your best when noone else even attempts. Great place to vegitate for 20 years. Why did I waste 10 years here
    ?

Advice to Senior ManagementHold people accountable and reward those who do a good job with a salary in line with your counterparts. Stan needs to get head out of sand and see what truly goes on.

believed in the company until problems with products came up. Corporate support to solve did not exist

    Sales Representative (Former Employee)
    Boston, MA

ProsBenefits, Community Service, ability build and grow your business

ConsLarge company that has great ideas, but does not consider how to support their employees or resolve problems. Spend first few years learning how to navigate and who to go to that may be able to help you resolve customer issues.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the process of all aspects of business. Too many levels of management with no authority

    A mixed bag.

    Support Supervisor (Current Employee)
    American Fork, UT

ProsThe leniency for a work/life balance is wonderful! Other than entry level there is great autonomy if you have the right boss. There are some opportunities for advancement

ConsCompensation is significantly below local/ national averages. The health insurance used to offset (to a degree) the pay but it has also deteriorated. It is mostly run by people with accountant backgrounds who do not invest in the company. They create bandages to paste over other bandages to fix products/processes/procedures.

Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease pay, invest in new technologies to improve products and work design

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
