Company without a heart

Analyst-IT Developer (Current Employee)
Melville, NY

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time for more than a year

ProsGood dental plan.
Some people are nice.

Cons1. Even it is 12 inch of snow out there, you have to show up to work. That is right. Even USPS does not deliver mail, you are asked to show up at this place.
2. Management acts like they are open to suggestion, but don't believe it.
3. If you have a veteran/professional or have years of experience, do not work here. They don't believe you. Management wants to be "scheined".
4. Clock in and clock out. Are you kidding?
5. If you are young, don't work here. Many old people here.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing to say to them. I have tried.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Worst job experience in 20+ year career

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Melville, NY

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThe Company is solid. Great industry for the aging population. Top management does not overpay itself.

ConsSeveral of us were overworked and under appreciated. Managers played favorites to the point of counter- productivity. Middle managers had little respect for work-life balance, unless it was their own. Hokey Team Schein stuff. You're only a team for the company's benefit. There is no team for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to implement anonymous 360 degree reviews and to really pay attention to them and take them seriously.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

you have to kiss butt to get anywhere

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than a year

ProsHours were ok, some of the clients were really nice, training was good, benefits were also good. If you are good at sucking up to management you will do well.

ConsWhen hired I was given a lecture about how employees are not fraternize with the clients. Which was not a problem for me, but shortly after I started, I found out that was ok, as long as you sucked up to management. Employees were even kicked off accounts due to behavior clients didn't like, but were not disciplined by management or even looked into.
If you did not suck up to management, don't expect to be promoted, no matter how good of a job you do.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat everyone the same, and have the same rules set up for all, not who is your best drinking buddy this week. Take client feed back more seriously, both the good and the bad. You can learn from it all.

Mixed feelings

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

ProsSome great people to work with. Great name in the industry. Great teams at the branch levels. Great products and manufacturer relationships. Decent National Sales Meeting.

ConsVery outdated internal systems, bordering accient, make it hard to do the job. Fly by the seat of your pants upper management, sales people can get away with anything if they sell.. even just a little bit. Mircomanagement runs ramppant at corporate levels. Adding too many layers of management that mircomanage. No accountability for Sr management. Human resources has zero power to enforce Code of conduct and values

Advice to Senior ManagementHold sales people accountabile for the actions and ethics. Update old technology systems to make records, ordering, research, queries, etc; more timely.

The company has high expectations, but doesn't provide the necessary tools

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Reno, NV

I worked at Henry Schein full-time

ProsFamily atmosphere amongst the worker bees.

ConsProvide their sales teams with old outdated equipment and software programs. Getting adequate equipment to perform the job is like pulling teeth.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop pointing the finger and show some appreciation to the employees who actually interface with the customers.

– I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Lack of Training. Operates in a Silo

Product Category Specialist (Former Employee)
Melville, NY

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than a year

ProsStable employment. Great 401 match.

ConsManagement is undereducated
The whole company operates in a silo. Too many upper management "grew up" at Henry Schein. They really need fresh faces from other industries and more ideas.

Watch your back!

Equipment Sales Representative (Former Employee)
Lenexa, KS

I worked at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

ProsLeft alone for the most part to do your job. Set your schedule.

ConsBack stabbers. Only care about the bottom line. Canned sales reps even after told the company, "was solid."

Advice to Senior ManagementIt feels a bit like the company runs like a mafia...

Shallow pockets with a lot of expectations

Field Sales Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at Henry Schein full-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexible schedule, proactive training, some exclusive relationships with suprior products

ConsPoor compensation and expense reimbursement, conflicting management values, impossible to make make money with diminishing margins, saturating territories with reps which make it difficult to grow your own territory, offer unfilled promises of a lucrative career, encourage competition among the team which creates resentment and unethical behaviors

Advice to Senior ManagementStart offering some compensation for expenses related to this position. Times have changed- have successful reps that are currently in the field lead training initiatives. Start hiring experienced and professional reps instead of new grads that work cheap- your reputation is quickly tarnishing.

Looking for another job

Credit (Current Employee)

I have been working at Henry Schein

ProsBenefits are excellent. People I work immediately with are wonderful.

ConsNo room for advancement. Very small pay increases. Management is a joke...very male chauvinist attitudes. Been there over 10 years and have 3 degrees and I am as far as I am going. The supervision doesn't even have college degrees, not even an A.S.

Advice to Senior ManagementWould they care about our feedback? I think not...
