    Great People - Great Company

Area Superintendent (Current Employee) Denver, CO

ProsTremendous Projects. Great growth opportunities through middle management. Talented, engaged, and committed employees are a pleasure to work with.

ConsPrevalent good ol' boy network. Best builders are not often the best managers. Internal competition and infighting can be tiresome.

Advice to Senior ManagementRecent cultural nudges are a great step in the right direction.

The Good, the bad, and the ugly

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat health benefits, employee owned, a great sense of pride working for this company, extensive training, and overall a great company to work for. Is making changes to improve quality of life issues. The grass is likely not greener anywhere else!

ConsPromotions for diverse employees are slow. It takes more time and effort as a diverse employee to get promoted versus someone who is not ethnic. This is a touchy subject, but look at the numbers and it tells the story...numbers don't lie.

Advice to Senior ManagementThink about your diverse employees objectively and ask yourself is there a reason not to promote these employees. If they have performed satisfactorily, met their goals, have gone above and beyond, and have good reviews...promote them! It seems that non-diverse employees don't have to "jump through hoops" for promotion, they simply do their jobs and by default they get promoted. Pay attention to managers who may not be objective about it and get them the soft skills training they need to evaluate and promote everyone based on the same criteria.

    Very happy with my internship!

Field/Office Engineer (Former Employee) Miramar, FL

ProsThey give you experience with many different aspects of the job. I learned so much this summer when I worked with them. Everyone is always willing to help you. Did fun things as a company where the families were also involved.

ConsLong hours but most construction is like that.

Advice to Senior ManagementI like that they talk to everyone in the company, even the interns.

ProsEmployee Owned, Mostly all employees are good people who are driven and want to do well.

ConsStandard construction work hours, not a 40 hour work week. Large projects, requires relocating.

Lots of hours, lots of learning, and great people!

Field/Office Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsThe diverse projects you work on. You can be working on a $30M job to a $300M+ job. You can start in the field, office, or in estimating. Everyone is so helpful and make it comfortable to work. The training is remarkable here. As soon as you get into the mix of things, it seems like there is training opportunity that they encourage you to sign up for! It is so refreshing to see an employer willing to invest in its employees.

ConsHours, hours and more hours; and its not just you! The managers are there even longer and it trickles down. They are truly passionate about what they do, but some seem to live at work. Salary is not as competitive as other companies.

I have not started working there yet so I don't have a real opinion.

Field Engineer (Current Employee) Denver, CO

ProsThey are very accommodating to their employees and their needs. They believe that it is more important to take care of the employees so they will take care of their job.

ConsFrom what I hear, there are sometimes long, unavoidable hours. I have heard different opinions on their family values but I don't have any experience of my own.
