I have been working at Hess Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay and ins. benefits not enough pros to meet the twenty word minimum so I will just ramble just a bit longer.

    Cons

Worst company ever for cutting payroll hours. Single coverage is the norm and half the bathrooms are outside. Ever go to a Racetrac and see a sigh on the door...BRB taking a crap?!
NO because they have 4 or 5people working at a time!!!

Too many people in Texas and New York without field experience running the show from across the country. Doesn't work.
Most of the good people have left because they couldn't handle the BS

I worked at Hess Corporation part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

They provided the shirts required for the uniform, and they were somewhat flexible with their scheduling.

    Cons

The turnover rate was very high, which made it extremely difficult to work together as a team. I feel as though we were always training someone new. It was hard to keep people because the pay was low, and the job was rather "dead end". The expectations were high from management to maintain facilities, clean, stock shelves, & run the register all on your own. When you were not able to complete all of these tasks you were served with a write up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than sitting in the back at the desk all day, your associates could really use some help on the floor.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Interesting industry with strong E&P portfolio

    Cons

    - Skewed management and strategic goals as a result of influence of John Hess and his personal relationships
    - Uncertain future and disorganization as a result of (probably justified) shareholder activism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Proper management starts at the top. Instead of being removed as President and continuing as CEO, John Hess should have been removed as CEO and continued as President. His personal interests are having major effects throughout the organization.

I worked at Hess Corporation full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Generally really good and committed people working at the lower levels.

    Cons

An upper management from hell. They change direction/strategy and coin a new corny name for it every 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Replace upper and middle management.

Current Employee - General Manager in Woodbridge, NJ

I have been working at Hess Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

If you can get into management, you can earn a mostly living wage salary.

    Cons

    - No communication from corporate.
    - Site maintenance has been abandoned in the name of budgeting.
    - Increasingly myopic focus on suggestive/up selling as the sole business strategy.
    - No means to give feedback on ineffective marketing reps without retaliation.
    - Blatant lack of accounting for what sites do and do not have in regards to items like fast food, walk in coolers, correct planograms, etc.
    - No prospect of advancing past general management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hess needs to remember they are in the gas station business (although, not for much longer) and needs to make an actual effort to stay relevant.

What happened to the digital price signs we were promised years ago? What have repaving lots that have pot holes and repairing old sites that are falling apart? Apparently, all the money is going towards beer caves and developing computer screens that automatically suggestive sell items to customers.

Also, stop forcing out distributions of products that don't sell. Artificially boosting a site's margin, by flooding the back stock just eats up money in the long run.
