Former Employee – worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – health benefits, 401k match, vacation
Cons – low employee morale, poor leadership
Advice to Senior Management – the competition in the majority of competing segments has passed you by.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Potential to be great! Access to lots of opportunities within the company. Senior leadership does seem to be getting better.
Cons – Salary is terrible. They can't keep talent because they won't pay market rates. Benefits are expensive for such a large company. The company mission can be very cloudy that leaves employees guessing which way to go. Massive turnover and workforce reductions constant.
Advice to Senior Management – Pick your market, focus there and let the employees know. Focus on keeping talent and growing it with the company, as opposed to watching good people walk out the door due to ridged HR policies that force people to leave for greener pastures. You want loyalty? Pay your employees. Concentrate on R&D not just buying up companies.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – For me, two major positives are coworkers and work location. We have a good group of immediate coworkers. We are able to share ideas, discuss challenges and work together to find positive solutions to meet business needs. My work location is close to where I live. This cuts down on commute time and helps with work life balance.
Cons – Employee morale extremely low. Clearly not supportive of a USA based workforce. Currently in the middle of layoffs and WFRs - work force restructuring. This is code for moving jobs out of the US. We recently lost more folks due to these actions. We were told point blank that our jobs were leaving the US and our time frame is short. The only career path open to US employees is out of the company. That does not mean there aren't jobs - good jobs. It just means a US employee is best served by being aware and making the most of his or her time to garner experience and skills for use elsewhere. Because there will be an elsewhere. It is not a question of "if", it is only "when".
Advice to Senior Management – Cost matters. But so does quality and people.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for less than a year
Pros – Flexible work environment
Decent pay
Decent talent (but misused)
Cons – Benefits not competitive
You work around the clock - prioritize the reactive, mundane vs longer term strategic
Non-existent teamwork - it's what can you do for me and how fast
Managers make empty promises
Sales oriented business where brains definitely aren't as valued as brawn
Friends take care of friends and lots of behind the scenes politics
Advice to Senior Management – Cut the dead weight leaders to turn this dinosaur around.

Former Employee – worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – You get to work with very bright people that genuinely care about the customer, each other, and the projects they are working on.
Cons – Over the course of ten years of mismanagement and revolving door management, HP has chased off their most talented senior engineers and first level managers. It seems unlikely to me that they are ever going to recapture their standing as a major source of innovation.
Very little of what I worked on during my last few years there was ever released. We would never get more than half done with something before management scrapped it and had us restart on some different permutation. It was very demoralizing to work on projects that you knew would never be completed.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than a year
Pros – -Great access to lots of resources
-Classification of teleworker enabled me to get compensated for my commute and tolls when visiting clients
-Majority of people I worked with were professional and very smart
Cons – -Was promised I would be a technical consultant and instead was just doing contractor type work
-Hard to get promoted (I mean HARD)
-After the EDS acquisition the company made cuts that didn't make sense and drove out a lot of good people
Advice to Senior Management – There is no need to have 300,000 employees. We start to feel very insignificant.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Theoretically pay can be good for sales people, if you can get a decent quota. A lot of benefits and perks as well.
Most of the products are solid performers.
Cons – HP is losing relevance at clients, especially in the Software arena. As a software sales professional, HP has made it clear that software is way down the totem pole compared to hardware, and clients and analysts are responding to that by lowering our ratings and not taking us seroiusly.
Internally, our management in the Software team has changed perpetually. I have had 4 managers, 3 VPs, and 5 SVPs in less than two years.
Quotas are also perpetually climbing, making it pratically impossible for a sales person to make their numbers. And then we are all held to the fire for our inability to succeed.
Advice to Senior Management – Some stability and opportunity for success in the field would be appreciated.

Current Employee – been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Tremendous collaborative culture of teamwork among peers
Excellent internal tools and support resources for sales
Access to sales, product and industry training
Cons – The well-known CEO and strategy changes of the last few years have translated to continuous cycle of sales management changes -resulting in annual changes in assignments and business focus on services - Important to understand the strategy - du jour;
Company is focused on its hardware products --- Product led, centrix -- services is secondary
Job Seekers need to understand/research services sales role
Sales Management - transitioned recenlty to increased focus on managment by metrics -and, depending upon the territory management, can be implemented to the point where the metrics can become more inportant than the quality of the sales call or sales activity
