    Pros

Great pay, good benefits, some fun employee activities, very open minded culture.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Lots of fellow new hires
    Technology starting point
    Career advancement (outside HP!)
Volunteer Spirit of facility (Brought by previous leadership; current doesnt care)

    Cons

    Turnover
VP who runs MSC; does not listen and is arrogant (ran off great people)
New leader from outside is clueless
    Backfill hiring (swamped!)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue the changes. You need to get rid of the VP and his "new people". They are arrogant and have ruined something positive.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Great beneifts.
    Great culture, very inclusive.
Gave the employees an opportunity, annually, to submit feedback on how the employees feel about the company and its policies (overall and locally).

    Cons

The company has been on a downhill. Presently, it is not doing well and in my opinion they are not making the right decisions to turn the company around.
Product quality, repair center quality, and customer focus needs to be reviewed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Customers should always be the focus. Their loyalty will come with satisfaction of a well-made and durable product. Products materials and design in recent years has declined dramatically. Products need to be tested much more thoroughly than they have been before they leave the factories.

Repair centers are not trained well enough and do not care about the quality of their work because they don't have an HP logo on their shirts. Repair centers should be HP badged employees who have a stake in the quality of their work and whether the HP brand survives.

Technical support scripts do help maintain uniformity, but robotic canned-scripts are the last thing a customer wants to hear when they are going through a crisis with their computer. They don't want to be sold anything either.

Closing the technical support center in the U.S. and opening a second one overseas may save HP money in the short-term, but customer loyalty and satisfaction will take a huge hit. 6 out of 10 times I answered the phone, a customer was either very angry because they had been transferred so many times or because they had been speaking with someone they couldn't understand because of the language barrier; or they were thanking me for "speaking English".

    Pros

    Money
    Vacation and PTO
    Health, life, dental insurance

    Cons

    Constant change without warning
No matter what you will be required to sell and uplift, thats something they don't tell you initially
Most people in management are self centered and think about themselves
Upper management is crappy and never interact with you unless there is a problem

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out you own butt and interact with those lower on the pole who actually make your business money everyday

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great Pay, Great Benefits, Great Co-Workers, Good amount of training in the beginning of your employment with them. Great Trainers and a few good supervisors as well.

    Cons

Upper management not trust worthy, promoted under achievers instead of over achievers based on nepotism or friendships versus hard working experienced and dedicated workers who were more qualified, and had been there much longer; despite preaching to everyone that the company doesn't work like that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In the beginning the company was a terrific place to work. Unfortunately after the company started making money, the wrong people were promoted and that's when many of the cons began to come into play. Quit losing great employees over a few bad seeds in the company. Just because they are your friends and nice to your face, doesn't mean they are when you aren't around.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

company has great benefits..actually excellent benefits

    Cons

lower mgmt structure..mg1, mg2...are not in touch with employees..most are offsite so they have No idea what is going on..for the most part if they are not true managers who have done the position they are managing they tend not to have good knowledge to pass along to upper management when things are wrong. The group I used to work in had very poor managers and were very poor at both people mgmt and leadership. The department has been suffering for the last 3 years because of it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop sending jobs to Mexico and India. Train your managers to manage better and lead better. Invest in your U.S. Employees..actually talk to your lower level employees...not the mg1 and mg2 but the actual individual contributors in another means other than a survey. You might actually find out why you are losing your talented people.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

As a large company their benefit offerings are good. If you are willing to move a lot your opportunities are greater.

    Cons

More bureaucracy than the federal government. Everything is self serivce, you have to wade through tons of policies and procedures to try to get any questions answered as an employee! On a work level it is even worse, right hand doesn't know what left hand is doing. And just when you are familiar with the right answers, policy will change again. By far the cheapest company I have ever seen in the investments they make in regard to the tools and software systems you have to deal with on a daily basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HP systems are beyond inadequate and cost the company an enormous amount of employee downtime due to systems not working. On the consumer side you could improve service drastically if management would actually make decisions based on what customer service reports and what the customer actually complains they don't like- like outsourcing!

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Hourly pay means you will not be working overtime

    Good benefits

A good company to have on your resume

    Cons

If you want to work well here, try not to overthink, because the directives are confusing and sometimes contradictory.

The structure is constantly changing...turnover is high

Politics happen...don't hitch your wagon to the wrong star

Get up or out as soon as you can....this is a pit stop, not a destination.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be clear and reasonable in your expectations. Be understanding of the fact that the 300, 000 plus employees and the vast product offerings and changing organizational structures are overwhelming and impenetrable to many both in and out of the company. Create, at the very least, the illusion that you see your employees as more than means to your ends.
