I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Brand name and breath of product. Compensation is good. Benefits industry standard.

    Cons

Change and more change. Change is part of life and it the IT industry, however, HP has redefined the word. The biggest complaint is from the client base, two many reps and territory changes. Customer support and R & D is the worst in the IT industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

What management. Too many and too many layers of folks that do not add value. Management is interested in the next level to keep their jobs and not interested in employees or customers. HP needs continuity in the field and more reps, not more layers of management.

    Pros

Great respect for people who have worked for HP

    Cons

Management is going in so many different directions. You are just a number and there is no loyalty towards employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick with one strategy and stop buying companies. Develop from withing and not by purchasing IP.

    Pros

Good at creating a high level vision. An industry legend that you want to see succeed

    Cons

Lost ability to innovate and execute. Management out of touch with the field...and not interested in addressing the issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the field. They have a lot to offer.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are some very hardworking, knowledgeable and dedicated people at this company and the company is truly trying to turn itself around.

    Cons

A sense of direction has not filtered down to employees and the fact that the announced lay offs (27,000) are coming in phases of a period of years has leached the life out of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finish the lay offs now and start the building.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

You have opportunities to work on different projects overtime and therefore you can learn a great deal if starting out in your career.

    Cons

You don't have a lot of choice in the projects you work on. Review process is quite strange at HP in that you get a performance review from a manager who does not even know you nor has worked with you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to amend the performance review process and do more to help employees grow in their careers.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

    Starting Salary
    Health Benefits
Some very nice, caring people in the firm
    Flezible with travel expenses
    Supportive of life issues

    Cons

    Advancement Opportunities
    Review Process
    Career Growth
    Pay Raises
Internal PC Help Desk, OMG! It is terrible process
    Cannot trust everyone
Mentor / MOR process is a joke, does anyone even call their mentees? ever?!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't treat people like a number, there are very hard working, high performers that have not received raise in over 10 yrs (i was only there for 5yrs), improve merit and bonus process, it is awful!, the internal pc help desk process is embarassing, the mor process is not existant

Former Employee - Manager in New York, NY

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Great peers and HP does give you a great work/home balance. Working from home was never a problem. Medical, dental and vision benefits are pretty good.

    Cons

No bonus structure to speak of. Very little chance of promotion or raises. Absolutely no feedback od performance. Can be very frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sending jobs overseas and start giving adequete compensation. It will payoff if you sell HP as the company who hires locally.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Flexible work hours, home office based, good health care package are pretty much the only things left at Hewlett Packard.

    Cons

Low Pay, no raises (after 4 years of being with the company), bad upper management decisions, no real room for growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your messaging straight and lead by example. All of the VPs at the company are sucking it dry and not giving an equal distribution down the ranks.
