I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great people. Good environment. Lot's of opportunity to learn and move around and try new things. There's plenty to do.

    Cons

In such a big company it's very difficult to shine or stand out. The rewards get trimmed down more and more every year. Just when you thought they ran out of ways to cheap-out on rewarding employees, they come up with some new and insulting "rewards system" which is just a new way to give less to employees. Bonuses have reduced to a trickle over the years along with raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward your people. Stop getting greedier and craftier in inventing ways to not reward employees. Giving me "points" and merit badges (yes, this is how they actually reward us) doesn't help me pay my bills.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to telecommute, encouragement of professional development and ability to work as an individual performer in a supportive team were the more positive aspects of working with HP.

    Cons

Inconsistent growth as a division with in a large corporation was difficult to manage. Constant reorganization and lack of proper job definition was hard to manage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend more time identifying how to encourage and motivate your employees. This will better ensure they are able to deal with change.

    Pros

High degree of autonomy in managing development of high-visibility, big-budget, high-revenue products. Knowledgeable and very professional teams. Company name and reputation gets fast action from suppliers and customers alike.

    Cons

The corporate culture has changed significantly in the last 15 to 20 years. It has lost some of what once made it a great place to work. It's huge size alone has created a mountain of red tape to be overcome in order to innovate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make more of an effort to obtain input from all levels regarding product strategy and future plans.
