I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

having a world class organization be able to financially back you make this company worth working for

    Cons

unfortunately the left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing and in this case that mixed with the red tape in order to get any small project accomplished makes it a difficult place to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

if the company would spend a little more time trying to truly understand the project before starting implementation of the projects the dollars could stretch a lot farther

    Pros

Good Pay, Good work culture, friendly colleagues, lots of innovation across the company.

    Cons

All the cons associated with large companies. Lots of processes. Needs to become agile for quicker project turnarounds and be able to innovate in a competitive industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Continue emphasis on innovation.
    - Bring in more scientists, inventors on-board. HP has potential to redefine technology.
    - Make right acquisitions.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Great cafeteria on site
    - Tons of opportunities for training and certifications
    - Great benefits
    - Super flexible schedule
    - Very friendly smart coworkers
    - Tons of events and community involvement.
Overall, I'm really happy here and everyone else seems to be too. The culture is great.

    Cons

    - Salary is just ok
    - Uncertainty about the future - with the splits and layoffs, sometimes you wonder if your job is going to be safe. However, word on the street is that things are looking up.
    - Promotions seem slow. This isn't a job where you can move up quickly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide clear expectations for job growth. Be more open about the direction of the company.

Current Employee - Technology Consultant IV
Current Employee - Technology Consultant IV

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Large, old-school tech company with tons of direct and fringe benefits, and a global infrastructure to handle all employees and customers.

    Cons

Large companies have their issues - and HP is no different. Somewhat bureaucratic and focused on shareholder value, which is a good thing, but sometimes gets a little old. This is not a small company. HP has a recent public history of messing with promised bonuses, compensation and layoffs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what you're doing to keep the company moving forward. The turn-around is super important for so many reasons. A public company needs to find a balance between keeping employees, customers and shareholders happy. I think timely and accurate communication is key.
