I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Manager sets the culture of the team (productive & good or bad). It depends on who you get.

    Cons

Promotions are few to none. Salary promotions are at bottom of national average pay scales. End of year bonuses are minimal 5% or less compared to industry even if you are a top performer due to partners and internal customers. Forced performance bonus curve. Often devise various methods to get rid of experienced and performing workers to often rehire the same position with lower salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you talk the talk, then walk the walk. If you say your going to support new ways of doing things better and faster, then put your resources there and invest.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a lot of potlucks and fun activities, the lead people are fun, fair, hardworking and helpful, you can wear headphones and listen to music.

    Cons

Supervisors are not knowledgeable. One screams like a drill sergeant after demanding complete quiet from everyone in the office. Attitudes from supervisors are to micromanage and treat people like idiots. Head manager does not keep them in check, high amount of firing, lack of clear communication from supervisors, supervisors do not take their leads opinions into account with performance and firing decisions, the standard which employees must keep is an average but it is not specified what timeframe that average is, leaving an arbitrary way to fire someone for performance. Reviews are done poorly, professionalism is absent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop with the micromanaging. Allow employees to do their work. The office is never untimely. It always gets the work done and practically runs itself. People know what is expected of them, screeching like a drill sergeant and sending snide emails will NOT help the situation. Allow your employees room to breathe and watch them excel even greater. Don't punish people who are working hard for what someone did when the CDPU first started.
