I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    * Co-workers are awesome people to work with
    * First level management is good, but executives are terrible (poor decision making)
    * One month vacation after working for the company 10+ years

    Cons

    * Long work days
    * No job security
    * No bonus or raises in past couple years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sending engineering jobs to Costa Rica. Might be okay to do for the call centers, but not for the engineers who have been making quality improvements and saving the company millions of dollars.

    Pros

Technology, customer base, commissions, depth of brand recognition

    Cons

Poor management/lack of people skills, micro-management of sales and pre-sales, contradictory messaging, too many cooks in the kitchen, lack of client support

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managers should be more accountable for supporting their people rather than looking for ways to get rid of them.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Organizational experiences in project management, work from home policy, flat management structure, flexible working environment, decent holiday and vacation policies.

    Cons

bench policies and project instabilities put too much burden on staff rather then on the management; poor management on talent; too much focus on short term profitability and disregard the employee morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employee morale is a very important to a company's success and should not be traded with short term profit goals.

    Pros

    - decent pay
    - good benefits
    - nice people to work with directly

    Cons

    - no clear direction in projects
    - no clear guidance from upper management regarding layoffs, which occur every year by the thousands
    - many night meetings with other countries due to poor allocation of resources across the globe for projects
    - upper management does not listen to their employees despite the yearly feedback we provide them when we are forced to fulfill a employee morale survey

    Pros

Great respect for people who have worked for HP

    Cons

Management is going in so many different directions. You are just a number and there is no loyalty towards employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick with one strategy and stop buying companies. Develop from withing and not by purchasing IP.

    Former Employee - Program Manager

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pros without a doubt are the products. I use and will continue to use HP products even though I no longer work for the company.

    Cons

Focus on the shareholder rather than the company health and well being. So many constant layoffs completely impacted moral and in many cases subject matter exerts disappeared with their wealth of information.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take back the company.
