    I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Global company with many opportunities (if you are in a low cost country)

    Cons

most jobs are being "best-shored" or code for sent to the cheapest country.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

get to know your employees strengths and stock the "good old boy club" attitude. Having team meetings in London while laying people off is not a very good morale builder.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Large customer base with a high degree of loyalty. High quality products

    Cons

No leadership and even less management outside of the financial side of the business. It seems they believe leadership can be taught and they consistently confuse leadership with management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decide who you want to be when you grow up. Stop assuming that if you build a better mousetrap and hire very technical mouse trap builders you will succeed...you won't. When you acquire a company bring them into the fold quickly and make that part of the terms of the acquisition instead of letting them ride the range as they see fit. In other words manage.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Nice enough building. Benefits are good enough. Some flexibility for work home life balance but that is disappearing fast. Great place to see a large corporation at work, especially if your are interested in enterprise service companies. Exposure to different cultures.

    Cons

Expect to be underpaid compared to market. Expect little raises or bonuses. Expect no room for advancement, only lateral moves, OR the one most common, if you were promoted, new title but no raise. Expect to spend most of your day talking to other parts of the company that are off shore in other countries, and come to the realization the only reason you have a job is that the contracts you are on, require on hands by US citizens. Expect your supervisors to have little people skills or leadership skills, the only skill they generally have is kissing up to their superiors, which is what gets them promoted. Expect little feedback, constantly changing and contradictory expectations, and constant cleaning up messes because no one knows what they are doing. Expect an us against them attitude, which boils down to the former EDS employees clinging to EDS ways, and treating everyone that came in after the buyout and dismantling of EDS, as suspect or inferior. Expect upper management to say highly unprofessional statements and openly disparage various groups of people. Expect your concerns to be ignored even when those concerns are backed by laws and industry standards. Expect a constantly rotating crew of coworkers because anyone with talent is going to leave the company as soon as they can. Expect to beg for any equipment or other items you may need for your job. Expect a high school atmosphere of cliques and teacher (managers) pets. Expect new people brought in off the streets, who have less qualifications than you do, but given a higher position than you, and then you find out their mommy/ daddy knows so and so. Expect that you will not even get an interview for positions you applied for, and if you do, the position is all of a sudden downgraded so it would only be a lateral move.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at the existing workforce for open positions. Actually look for people who have actual leadership skills to be put in position of leadership. Removing the work from home option for many is a huge mistake, as it was one of the things that used to be a pro. Think about the comments you are making for opening your mouth and putting your foot in it.

    Pros

Big Name company on your resume.

    Cons

They change the Sales pay to make sure that Sales cannot earn too much, pay is caped. Poor management, too many managers. Unrealistic Quotas, unrefined Goals. Executives don't know what all the ISRs do to bring in business.

    No clear path for advancement.

Who you drink with matters more to advancement than the sales you do.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

For a truly alpha personality that thrives on competition, the constant drive to be ever evolving, and is a bit of a work-aholic, this place is for you. Rewards at the top few levels are enormous, and you will always be on the bleeding edge.

    Cons

Having worked at HP for more than 18 years, the feeling here is that they want everything they can take from your. More than one colleague sacrificed all, including family and marriage just to give the company what it asks for. And HP rewards them by constantly rearranging organizations so knowledge is evaporating, the never-ending threat of layoffs and a shifting landscape in the name of "change"--as if the ideal is the change, not the value received from the change. Many seemingly enjoy this environment, because if you do the rewards can be great--although it will take sacrifice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strive for stability as your next change

    Pros

The pay is decent for what I do.

    Cons

Leadership is ever changing and direction is very unclear. It sometimes feels like Meg is throwing darts at a dartboard to determine her next move. If you don't perform on her crazy ideas well enough, then you get booted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
