I have been working at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Steady work, good managers, work from home opportunities.

    Cons

Too many of the people I work with, including myself, are contractors. Our rates were just cut as well, increasing the risks on our projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much focus on cost cutting can lead to the loss of customers.

    I worked at Hewlett-Packard

    Pros

Good company to work for depending on the helpdesk you work. A very diverse company to work but most employees are contract. Age does not appear to be a factor when hiring that is a good point to have about the company. If you do well great chance to be hired permanently.

    Cons

If you work for a contract company and work at HP your position will not be held while you heal. Training given prior to going on a desk is no where near what you will actually be doing once you go live. Time off not so much given especially if you are contract no work no pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure the training matches what the employees will be doing when being put on a desk. Make sure you know all the rules before passing on the information to your team. Become more compassionate when a member of your team needs time off due to medical reasons. You may be letting go of a great employee.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large diverse company with many outstanding employees. Flexible work schedule no micro-managing pretty much left alone to do our jobs for our business clients. Good support structure with ability to speak our minds with no repercussions.Supplied with company phone , laptop and good benefits package

    Cons

Large company's tend to overlook employees at raise and bonus time. Asked to do magic to satisfy the business client with lots of kudos but not much in the way of any meaningful compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider our Employees before the business clients being supported . We are doing a fabulous job maintaining our business account functions. We are routinely blindsided by our company which then affects how we can support our business clients. If we are doing the job to the High level stated by our company then please pay us accordingly.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Nice campus with many amenities (Gym, pharmacy, clinic, cafeteria/coffee and outdoor recreational area). Fairly flexible when it comes to work hours and taking off. Benefits are competitive, but not exceptional. Technical career path available instead of being a people manager. Meg seems to be a competent CEO and things have been improving under her leadership.

    Cons

Fairly constant layoffs, even when things seem to be going well. Have been through many awful CEOs/VPs that are largely responsible for the company's position behind the technology curve by squandering many opportunities. Raises that don't really exceed inflation rates and broken ratings system. Mysterious unpredictable bonus instead of an actual raise. Many internal opportunities, but you can't get there without involving your current management. Company splitting soon and not sure what that will mean.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit laying people off to please investors, and invest in your employees.
