I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Competitive salary and lots of resources for training and education.

    Cons

Big organization and little guidance by management on operations and projects. Professional services management team is completely disconnected from day to day operations on various accounts. Lots of red tape.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Professional services management structure needs to be revisited.

    I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time

    Pros

Exciting history. Large global reach makes for interesting projects, clients, and product offerings. Great access to software for completing your responsibilities.

    Cons

Took multiple pay cuts. Pay is below average for the 24 hour access the company wants to you. Leadership is only interested in the leaders above them. No reward for stellar work. Tremendous amounts of internal process waste. Many opportunities for simplifying processes and reducing headcount.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Simplify internal processes. Find away to get back to the R&D roots but apply those values to all company activities, not just new products.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Very laid back environment, good benefits, never worked over 40hrs in a week, very flexible with schedule as long as work was completed on time.

    Cons

Directions from management were very ambiguous, aren't fully vested in your 401k until 2 years of employment most people get laid off within the 2 years so the company saves that money.

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Enormous. Lots of career paths. Every avenue of tech covered in depth. Comp is ok. Some amazing individual talent.

    Cons

Continual disruption. Executive politics create seismic impacts throughout org. Bonuses regularly paid below target. Salary increases are nominal. Decreasing workplace flexibility - not all bad, but perhaps over rotating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stability creates an environment enabling success - maintain strategies beyond a single fiscal quarter. Identify long term goal and stick to it.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Lots of great people to learn from, independence on projects and a variety of learning experiences

    Cons

pay was awful, raises we're almost non-existent, being told over and over that you're lucky to have a job while workloads climb. By the time I left I was doing the job of 3 other people who had left and not been back filled including my own job. Feel like HP is circling the drain.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Short sighted goals and frequent pendulum shifts leaves the employees scrambling from one project to another.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard for more than 10 years

    Pros

They provide great benefits and good pay.

    Cons

No stability. I worked for HP for 12 years and I was a very good employee. The company outsourced my position to another country because it was cheaper which is what they are doing too many of their departments. Their employees have been loyal but the company does not return the favor. They use to be one of the best companies to work for and they once had great integrity, but they have lost their way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit outsourcing to other countries. It hurts the employees, the company and most of all the customers.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Reasonable autonomy to get the work done --

    Cons

Too often mixed messages from client re: type of work needed. Also, suspicion that they leveraged work product internally rather than respecting intellectual property. One likes transparency with management -- another key component of trust.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat vendors and consultants better. A vendor/corporate relationship of needs must be based on trust. When either party feels it has been abused, that relationship breaks down and the model simply doesn't work --

I have been working at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People, smart people, kind and limited politics.

    Cons

Management gets frustrating. There is a mixed bag of great leaders and poor leaders. Limited development and improvements made when poor leaders are known -- nothing gets done about it.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

Working at HP was a rewarding time that saw my professional skills improve greatly, but the career growth was not there. The project management team that I had while employed showed favoritism and did not show any interest in helping me gain the skills that would allow me to transition into a full-time position. At times it felt like there were certain interns that were given the benefit of the doubt when something was done incorrectly and others were treated as if they were on the verge of being fired if something was done incorrectly. Although there was no help from the project managers in my growth I did gain the confidence from one of the testing leads and she was someone that saw my dedication to the job and slowly gave me added responsibilities. I did have the ability to work flexible hours which was nice.

    Cons

No commitment to professional development from PM team. Could be a hostile environment at times. No commitment to take time to understand how employees learn and utilize the skills and ability that they have.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The advice that I would give management is that they need to make it more of a priority to help develop the leaders of tomorrow. Without the ability to be a mentor to the leaders of tomorrow you are doing a dis service to both the company and the leaders of tomorrow.

I worked at Hewlett-Packard full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Huge, lots of different experiences, some really fab people. significant career diversity in different business units and locations when the timing is right.

    Cons

huge, slow and shrinking. missed key disruptions in technology - mobile, tablet, virtualisation, enterprise SSD, SDN, on and on....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Very quick to hire from the outside instead of promoting from within, not taking the hard choices on culling slow and shrinking businesses and getting serious about growth and margin expansion. Are you IBM or DELL? can't be both.
