I have been working at Hibbett Sports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent employee discount (25% off everything) Certain stores have great employees.

    Cons

Dress code is sexist. Women employees have more freedom, for example, Men are not allowed to have hair below collar or ear piercings, and women can have only one pair, lol. Management is awful. Team players get a small amount of hours. You only look forward to back-to-school time for a decent amount year 'round. Too much focus on up-selling accessories that most customers dislike. Lots of reviews I read prior to being hired on said moving up is tough unless you relocate, although I have worked at two stores since, those statements only pertain to head coaches in training. You only move up getting really lucky with this company.

    Advice to Management

Lose the 'bible belt' attitude dress code. I've worked for many companies but I have never felt less privileged as an employee at your company.

I worked at Hibbett Sports part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sometimes there is dead time and nothing to do.

    Cons

I was an assistant manager for them and they closed the store down without even giving any of the employees a heads up. They came into the store and started packing up. Also I was promised to make 10$ as an assistant manager in the interview and I got paid 7.25 the entire time I worked there. They also are really anal about EVERYTHING. We weren't allowed to sit down when there was nothing to do. They would make us harass the customers when they came in to shop and 99% of the customers hated it. Corporate wants us to harass the customers to make the most money. Also, they don't pay us by commission but they also want us to make the most money and sell the most items. They also make the employees take all these tests and watch all these pointless videos all the time. They want us to bring out 2 shoe boxes at once but we can't bring out 2 show boxes if they don't provide us with the right sizes or enough inventory.

    Advice to Management

Pay the employees by commission, business will be a lot better. You can't pay employees 7.25 and expect them to work their butts off for you without a compensation.

I have been working at Hibbett Sports full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The only hope you have in this company is hiring some really good employees because you will be spending all and I do mean all of your time with them.

    Cons

Very, very strict about when your 48 hours take place. If sales are down you're absolutely going to be working 55-70hrs. Company is very unorganized. No one is ever on the same page. Your district manager will tell you one thing and completely forget about it the next week. You're very much so on your own when it comes to operational and learning. There is very limited training. You read a binder and you're on your own to sink or swim. You're not exactly a concern to the company. They will track your personal life in any way possible. There are strict rules about what you can and cannot do on social medial. Pretty much know that you are being watched at all times possible. There is no balance between work and having a life. Your life is now Hibbett. You will not get a raise.

I worked at Hibbett Sports full-time

    Pros

Discount was good, employees can be fun but they don't last, working with sporting goods, decent college job

    Cons

Uber strict rules for a small store, terrible pay, management has no clue, harsh on good employees, no product knowledge

    Advice to Management

Train employees on goods they're selling ON THE FLOOR. Don't rely on videos and tests. Realize employees have lives and make mistakes. RELAX

I have been working at Hibbett Sports full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Worked with some pretty good people. We had a small staff so we all grew pretty close. The company gives younger people a chance to become a general manager at the store level. If you come in motivated, a promotion to store manager will happen fairly quickly( not for a good reason though).

    Cons

Their pay is a joke compared to other companies. My boss once told me that "you don't come to Hibbett for money". And he sure wasn't lying. $8.50/hr for assistant managers? $9.50/hr for managers in training? That's terrible, fast food pays better wages than that. Along with pay, the benefits aren't very good as well. You won't recieve full-time benefits until you've been there for a year. You're expected to pay for your own uniform. If it's cold on the sales floor in the winter you're not allowed to wear your own jacket, they expect you to pay $50 for an approved one on the salesfloor. You're expected to sell like a commissioned salesman on an hourly wage. You won't get anything for selling aerosols and insoles, yet they want you to push, push, push those items. They're store policy is outdated, no cell phones, cover tattoos etc. Most retail places don't do that kind of stuff nowadays. You're forced to follow every customer around the store to watch them because Hibbett is too cheap to install cameras to actually catch real thieves. As a manager you're forced to work 48 hrs a week, no overtime, on salary and 1 week vacation a year. Bad, bad and bad. Finally the company appears confused. They want to operate under the image of a small-town sports company, but the corporate policy is very rigid. They stress of family to employees, but if you have a family you'd never see the insane amount of hours they expect you to work. The company is more worried about misuse of coupons and employee discount rather than advertising their business. And referring to ease at which associates can move up to store manager if they so choose, it is because the manager turnover rate is ridiculously high(above 90 percent). That is because the company cannot hold on to managers since they barley pay them a living wage.

    Advice to Management

I feel like if I answer this thoroughly I'd end up writing a book. All I can say is come to this century. Update your store policy and your technology. You're business is operating two decades behind your competitors. It's no wonder why your business makes newly hired employees sign that terrible no-compete clause. Managers are going to continue to leave if keep treating them this way. Start paying your employees like you want them to stay.

    Pros

25% discount on products. Casual atmosphere. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Top management very inexperienced; horrible leadership. Computer system from the 20th century. Women are treated like 2nd class citizens, especially women in management. Lots of race and gay jokes.

    Advice to Management

Learn management and leadership skills. Take a class or two.

    Pros

The people in the merchandising department are kind and likable for the most part. I had a chair and a desk.

    Cons

My first year at Hibbett I got five, yes FIVE whole vacation days and NO sick days. Did I mention you also do not get paid holidays. When the snow storm hit and the office closed I was also not paid for those days, although it was not my choice to not come in. They wouldn't offer 'hazard pay.' There are no 'perks' of working here. They say your salary is X, but with bonuses its X++. That is a blatant lie, once in a blue moon you might bonus after years of service. Oh, but don't forget to factor in your $25 Christmas bonus. < No that's not a joke. If you have kids, you can get away with anything. Leaving early, coming in late, doesn't matter. If you don't, you have to play 20 questions just to take a step towards the door. People also bring their kids to work, so its more of a daycare than a business. Management is an absolute mess. Its embarrassing. The communication, or lack thereof, in this 'business' is borderline asinine. No one knows what is going on, no one can find someone who does. It's like chickens running around with their heads cut off. Training - There isn't any. There isn't even a training manual. You basically sit with other people and learn how they do things. The problem is, that person has only been taught one way because of the way they were taught, because of the way the person who taught them was taught. There is no uniformity. Everyone does their own thing their own way and basically you get lucky by who you sit with. One person might have a really good way of doing something and one person might be doing it a really difficult way, but you'd never know because there's no training manual for anything. This retail company doesn't have e-commerce. Therefore, they never make sales goals. Therefore, no one bonuses. They also don't have the infrastructure to support e-commerce. So even if it did happen, it wouldn't be for a very long time because the new distribution center they spent all their money building, is not equipped for e-commerce. They tell you when you interview that you base salary is X but you will bonus making it X++. That is an outright and blatant lie. You've been forewarned. The worst part of the year I wasted at Hibbett: I learned absolutely nothing. Not one thing. After an entire year I have zero applicable knowledge I can take with me elsewhere. If a company happens to run on the same outdated operating system well surely then I'll be in luck. However, the likelihood of that happening is nonexistent. That is the most frustrating part of working here, I have learned nothing. I have not grown professionally in any way, shape or form. The only thing Hibbett taught me is everything I don't want in a company.

    Advice to Management

Communicate. Train people properly. Stop lying to your employees. Start moving toward e-commerce at a more rapid pace, not the aged snails pace you're working on. This is something that should've been done nearly a decade ago.

    Pros

The only real pro is your discount. The pay is bad the work is bad. You could sit there a full 8 hours and not have 1 customer

    Cons

Pay, management, overall just a mediocre ran company, they want you to sell and push products but off ZERO commission.
