Only work here if you must.

Team Player (Former Employee)

I worked at Hibbett Sports part-time for more than a year

ProsHibbetts provides a pretty casual work environment. If you're a teenager or student, it's a flexible place to work and build reliable work history for your resume while you're in school. Do not find yourself trapped in a career with hibbetts, however.

ConsHibbetts employs the working poor. You'll be paid the minimum wage our government will legally allow. If you already earned a Bachelors degree, that'll earn you an extra 10 cents per hour. Even Assistant management gets below $10. Hibbetts invests very little into it's employees and you will constantly be under scrutiny instead of being considered a valuable associate.

Advice to Senior ManagementCompanies like Banana Republic / Gap willingly pay all of their employees a minimum of $10 per hour. They view their associates as an investment. If an employee takes pride in what he does and the company he works for, that employee will go above and beyond to serve you and your customers.

Hibbetts puts little stock in it's employees, their work environment or pay, which is indicative of an employer who only does so begrudgingly.

A lot of hard work for very little reward

Assistant Coach (Former Employee)
Brownwood, TX

I worked at Hibbett Sports part-time for more than 3 years

ProsYou get a discount on SOME of the items in store. You can also get transferred to other stores fairly easily.

ConsThe customer is ALWAYS right. There is (was?) a policy while I was there that if a customer steals something but we do not see them physically put it on their person then we cannot say anything to them about it. Even if we see them walking out with it. We were forced to accept ANY and ALL returns at my store. I sold a complete outfit, (shirt, shorts, brand new Luggs, 59/50 hat, watch, etc) to a guy. I went out that night, saw him myself at the bar smoking in said outfit and he came in the next day to return it. My district manager was there that day and made me return all of it. The company doesn't truly check to make sure employees are knowledgeable. I know a bunch of people just copy answers on our "tests" just to be "certified" to sell certain products but have no clue about the items. It was a frustrating situation for me because I am an over achiever and hard worker.

Advice to Senior ManagementCheck up and make sure Head Coaches are doing what they should be. Make sure people know their stuff and aren't just cheating to look good. Listen to all employees, not just Head Coaches.

It was not a very good experience at all,the people at Sports Additions were treated very unfairly.

Assistant Coach (Former Employee)
Oxford, AL

I worked at Hibbett Sports full-time for more than a year

ProsHibbetts is a good company when it comes to sporting equipment and shoes

ConsHibbetts does not treat people fairly at all especially if most of the people that work in the store are black.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe managers need to get in trouble as well for not following the rules just as much as the employees. The manager I worked for never followed the rules and I always got in trouble for everything. It was really unfair for the manager never to work their required one Sunday a month and it wasnt fair for the manager to have every weekend off and not having the right amount of hours they were supposed to work.

Only worth it if you are in school and don't want hours

Assistant Manager (Current Employee)
Marion, IN

I have been working at Hibbett Sports

ProsGood if you like to work only mornings, employee discount applies to all items in store, great ability to learn more about sports

ConsLack of hours, Can not advance, unrealistic expectations, you are required to complete training but are not given any time to do so, if you have a problem with a manager there is no one to talk to because they are only evaluated one day a year by their boss who is not locally located, can not get discount unless head manager is there. I was hired and told that we would get my training done and then get a raise and moved to full time. My hiring manager did not only not follow through with this, she did the opposite. I was never allowed to work on my training, my hours were cut so she could hire a former employee that she liked, and she would refuse to grant requests.

Part-time help with a low-income and no benefits.

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
York, SC

I have been working at Hibbett Sports

ProsEasy work without too many physical requirements. Also, great discount on apparel and shoes within the store, but only when the general manager is there.

ConsLow pay, no benefits, poor management, no advancement opportunities worth taking advantage of, even worse development programs for management to go through.

Advice to Senior ManagementAdvance and develop your store managers in a way to accompany what actually goes on within the store, not on what you want to happen as a franchise.

Unfair

Head Coach (Current Employee)
Hays, KS

I have been working at Hibbett Sports

ProsWell you don't have to dress up, easy going you meet a lot of people.

ConsManager are never where they should,DM sometime stand behind you. Staff is always talking to friends or never know going on. People get promotion because they are best friends with upper management. Very unfair place.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop playing favorite to staff just because he need them to do your job and cover for you.

Not a hard job

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Columbus, OH

I worked at Hibbett Sports

ProsIt is a pretty Easy job to do and the People are pretty friendly. The hours the store is open isn't that bad

ConsHibbett is a small store so you only work with one other person and it can get busy and then two people isn't enough to cover the whole store. Also there aren't many employees so scheduling time off is hard
