Not bad if you don't plan to make a career of it

Reservation Sales Agent (Current Employee)
Carrollton, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide part-time for more than 3 years

ProsFlexible hours, you make your own schedule. Great co-workers. Great employee discount. Have the option to trade hours with other agents to accommodate your schedule.

ConsManagement doesn't care about their people, they believe in the three strikes you're out rule. It doesn't matter the circumstances. Work at home agents are encouraged to come onsite for activities, but it's not worth it, they don't care. I would only recommend working from home with Hilton if you are attending school and need a part-time job.

Unless you fit into automaton job requirements, working here can be a very frustrating.

Customer Care Coordinator (Current Employee)
Carrollton, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide part-time for more than 3 years

ProsSome very good travel benefits, though many properties can be nearly impossible to book.

ConsObsessed with quantity at the expense of quality. Obsessive attention to handling time, time between calls. If you're a robot on an assembly line, you'll do well here. Lip service to providing excellent customer service, but the bottom line is always $$$. Change is laboriously slow and from top down. Opinions of frontline workers give little credit, despite annual survey.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees in the trenches; they'll let you know how to deliver great customer service. Don't promise greater empowerment but then wait years to deliver it.

Great company if you've never worked anywhere else, ever

Revenue Manager (Current Employee)
Addison, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWilling to train
Very small consequences for mistakes
General tolerance of laziness, ignorance and stupidity

ConsLaziness is encouraged and rewarded
Little room for merit-based advancement
Too much worry for CYA that hurts actual performance
GIANT inconsistencies between managers and workgroups
Management WILL come down on you for pointing out people not doing their work
It's more important to play the game than serve the customer

Advice to Senior ManagementLet the employees work on things that actually matter

Micromanaged and pointless tasks

Revenue Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide

ProsInteresting job
Fun hotels to work with

ConsSenior management makes up so many needless tasks that it is hard to actually do your job! Some team members are micromanaged more than others. Advancement is not on a level playing field.

Advice to Senior ManagementBack off and let us work! Only hold the low performers to the extra documents and "checklists"

Honest Appraisal

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Addison, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide

ProsOpportunity for advancement is good and if you're willing to work around the clock, you can contribute something significant.

ConsWork life balance is awful and management is done by checklists. There is a lack of creative vision that permeates the organization, which is exemplified by Hilton's mimicry of other leading hotel brands.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a bigger-picture look at what Hilton needs to do long-term to succeed rather than looking at short-term ROI from properties and endeavors.

Lots of Opportunity for growth due to expansion plans but beware

Revenue Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide

Prosgreat on the job training
friendly coworkers

Consmust sign 2 year agreement with a 1 year non compete clause to get the job
salary is below what the market offers
no work/life balance
pitiful bonus plan
experiencing larger than average turnover (wonder why?)

Advice to Senior ManagementMake your employees happy and want to work there instead of forcing a 2 year agreement for retention.

There are great learning opportunities with hard work and loyalty at Hilton.

Senior IT Project Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at Hilton Worldwide

ProsI am proud of the name and I enjoy travel opportunities. Hilton is in the leading edge of hospitality technology. If your primary goal of your job is to learn new technologies you would do well here.

ConsIt is still a good old boy corporation with only a few (well publicized) exceptions. Those who can spin and say yes without any resistance are recognized as successful and those who point out the risks and try to mitigate them are seen as non-team players. Expectation management is impossible and if you want life balance, you will not find it in Hilton’s IT department.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep the technology simple to use and understand. Spend more time on training the staff on what tools they have at their disposal instead of re-engineering the wheel. Respect and value your IT staff instead of patting your self on the back for what they have created under your tutelage.
