I have been working at Hitachi Consulting full-time

    Pros

Great culture. Leadership truly fosters junior resources to get involved in activities outside of client work. It's a great place to get started in consulting but not to stay long-term.

    Cons

Pay scale is horribly managed. New-hire resources with no experience are being hired at salaries well above consultants with multiple years of experience. When confronted about the issue, management did nothing to remedy the situation.

    Pros

I worked at Hitachi Consulting full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people are great The work can be interesting

    Cons

The firm just doesn't invest in its people enough - training, etc. I never felt that senior leadership had a clear vision as to where they wanted to go and how to get there

    Advice to Management

Take a step back, decide what you want the firm to be, and make a plan to get there

    Pros

The people I work with are great. The benefits are good and overall they won't make you work too hard. If you are married or have a family they are extremely accomodating.

    Cons

You will now have to travel close to 100% of the time. There is not a lot of opportunity for advancement. if you are one of the lucky few to get a promotion you will be disappointed by the meager salary increases.

    Advice to Management

The reorganization is not benefitting anyone but senior management. I've been with the company for a few years and frankly it's hard to drink the kool-aid anymore. I don't see a future for myself here long term.

    Pros

The people are wonderful Management understands that challenges of personal/worklife balance There are many opportunities to learn and develop skills

    Cons

Salary is sub par Strategy is unclear Change away from a local focus has caused many to reconsider if they are interested in working here

    Advice to Management

I would suggest that communication of our direction and strategy be better conveyed. Additionally I would suggest that the firm consider the impact of the new strategy and target key resources that they are interested in retaining.

  7. We do great work, we just don't get paid well for it.

    Pros

The people I work with are amazing....too bad the company doesn't focus on retaining them.

    Cons

The pay is horrible and promotions are based on time at level only.

    Advice to Management

Pay the people who deserve it more and understand that time at level doesn't mean anything. User your objective critieria that you have spent so much time on or edit that but don't hold people back based on time and don't promote people based on time.

    Pros

Small company feel: There is a smaller company feel, I don't feel like I've just been lost in the group. This is nice to have while still having a decent brand behind us. People have at least heard of Hitachi even if it's not the consulting branch. Job security: It's really hard to get fired here, you really have to screw up really bad or just be lazy and/or incompetent. Fortunately we don't work with too many peers that are incompetent. There is a defined pathway to progression, although at times a little foggy. This helps to ensure that if I complete certain behaviors I should be promoted in a reasonable fashion.

    Cons

Salary: The salary is fairly poor, despite the bands that glass door has established, I can tell from experience that I fall well below the calculated band. As a consulting firm, we frequently are looked down upon by the "bigger dogs". This is not necessarily a bad thing, just requires more back bone. I have been told frequently by those in upper management that they don't care about education past the bachelors level, this is frustrating as I spent a fortune getting an MBA but they pay me the same that they pay someone that does not have an advanced degree; as long as that person has similar work experience they will pay the same.

    Advice to Management

Make employees feel more valuable. Employee recognition is minimal and the bonus structure is laughable.

    Pros

Good people, interesting work, some work life balance

    Cons

Limited advancement tied to tenure, not as much performance

    Advice to Management

Support good work and motivate people instead of finding ways to limit them.
