I have been working at Hobby Lobby part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They offer $15/hr which is more than I can say for most retail places. They have a wide selection of merchandise too.

    Cons

The fact that the pay is so good. They make u feel like you owe them your lung because of it. There is alot of favoritism also which kills team spirit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some genuine appreciation to your employees because they are truly the ones that make your company run. They are the ones in direct contact with the customers that come into the store to give you the money you are going after.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

The starting pay is much more than any job I've had. My coworkers are great people and fun to work with. Managers are awesome. I love that we close at 8, and I'm very grateful for Sundays off.

    Cons

There are so many rules that no one ever told me about, and then I get in trouble for breaking them. There are no scanners, which makes everything very slow. Remembering all the discounts is absolutely ridiculous. I've never been more berated and insulted by customers before working here. I get very little hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inform each employee of all the corporate regulations. The system of manually entering prices and remembering discounts needs to be improved.

I worked at Hobby Lobby part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Decent pay for part-time work -- above minimum wage.
    - Good store hours -- leaves time for family.
    - Employee discount was great.
    - Fair scheduling on weekends and evenings.
    - The customer service manager up front was phenomenal. Quick to assist, attentive, and empathetic -- genuinely cared about us.

    Cons

    - Inconsistent schedule -- as a part-time associate, I had little say over how many hours I worked a week. Some weeks I'd work 8 hours, others I'd worked 20-plus.
    - Inconsistent work -- some days I'd be at the register, others I'd be working in art or seasonal, and others yet I'd be unboxing stock. And yet when I was working in a department or in the back, I was constantly called up front to help on the registers, so completing my tasks took forever, and management was left wondering why.
    - Upper management was incredibly overbearing, and yet continually deaf to employees' comments and concerns.
    - No bar code scanning registers -- this was such a pain, especially for price checks and returns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Be consistent when scheduling both hours and work duties
    - Listen to your employees and accept their feedback

    Pros

the only good thing about working here is the pay is good. nothing else

    Cons

Team leaders looking over shoulder. push, push go, go, insurance not good. and you locked in like some prisoner

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say less strict on the employee and add vision to benefit's

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

Good pay for retail. Always something to do. Closed on Sunday's. Close at 8 pm every night.
    Steady raise every year.

    Cons

    Awful benefits
    Limited upward mobility
Upper management doesn't listen to complaints
    Sporadic hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote more employees from within the company instead of hiring outside people for management positions. They typically take forever to train and are trained by the people who should be in their position.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pay and benefits for full-time employees is quite competitive.

    Cons

There is very little incentive to work your way up in the company. The assistant managers and especially the store managers are worked to death for little more pay than normal full-time employees.

Also, the company seems very reluctant to embrace new technology to make the business more efficient.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better communication and coordination are a must. If you want projects done by a certain date, make sure the components on your end are in place first.

I worked at Hobby Lobby part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

15% discount. Employees and managers were all friendly and everyone typically got along. It was a lot like a big family. I worked 11 months before I quit on my own personal reasons.

    Cons

Customers are EXTREMELY slobby, always. Work can become extremely hectic and there were days I worked my 40 hours in three days. The management I worked at was particularly bad and unorganized. I worked full-time hours for part-time pay and never offered full-time. Sometimes the managers thought I WAS full-time already.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The worst thing about this company is their refusal to upgrade their systems. Everything is done by paper and printer and that slows everything done tremendously when working with deleted items.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

the pay is very good for what you do and they work well with your school schedule if you are a student

    Cons

people from the corporate offices always come in to grade the store and when they do they always tell you to do something new. this would not be bad if it was different for every store but it is not. They do not realize that every store is different and depending on the location you are in, you may need to do some things a little differently.

Current Employee - As A Matter of Fact, the Whole Store in Oklahoma City, OK

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

The items in the stores are nice, prices are so-so because of weekly discount savings, 40% coupon is good, the music is relaxing while you shop, some of the stores are clean and bright and some employees are friendly. Closed on Sundays but open for employees during new location store set and otherwise.

    Cons

Store sets are tideous and confusing since there no aisle to show which department to deliver stock to, items to ring up individually on register, orientation takes 90 days before hire as a PT/FT but no one really gets FT. Store hours 9am-8pm good for customers but employees leaves 2-4 hours later cleaning and covering the diamonds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should use modern technology in stores to prevent loss, advise store managers how to be courteous to employees as they do with customers. Store managers should meet with employees to disuss there work performance at least once a month, thank employees for their effort before ending their seasonal assignment without his/her knowledge, and let's work as a team.
