    Cons

I'm always working hard try to improving skills to be more effective presenter. Also try to get my task done by the end of the day and skip break sometime.

    Pros

hours are decent for what I need right now, pay is great, coworkers are great, managers are okay, i'm a crafter so asking around to different departments for advice is great, helping customers with projects and talking to them about their ideas, getting to help other departments with their work to get more familiar with the store, overall a great company to work for.

    Cons

communication between the people in my department sucks. schedule is up 2 sometimes 1 day before the new week. i get stuck in my department by myself while others get to work in groups and socialize in other departments. was called lazy and that i request too many days off, when the other people in my department request days off all the time. getting in trouble for not doing a task i wasn't assigned. given an assignment with little or no direction.

    Advice to Management

don't talk about an employee's work performance to someone outside the company who knows the employee. tell your employees if something can be improved upon, don't expect them to know. i know people are easy to replace, but given a chance i feel i would work great there, i just feel that they have already made their minds up about me. don't punish employees for requesting time off.

    Pros

If you get hired on as a full official employee (not seasonal) then you are promised to receive $15+/hr and full benefits. The customers are fun to interact with. Getting to know the inventory is great and gets you more involved with the crafting world. At the la mesa store, I really enjoyed working with most of my co-workers. The Assistant Manager (Amanda) was super awesome and not only listened to employee needs, but acted on those needs in whatever way she could, and she was always so positive and smiling.

    Cons

If you can only work a specific schedule, then this is not the place for you. Often I was scheduled to close even though I specified that I had young children, and once went a week without seeing them because I had to close every night, even though this company claims to be "family oriented". If there are a lot of employees then management might confuse you with a different co-worker, which isn't good when it comes to people calling out, missing days, or mis-punching on the time clock.

    Advice to Management

Take employee needs seriously when it comes to scheduling and families. SMILE! Don't be afraid to get to know your employees individually.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby part-time

    Pros

The pay is pretty good for part time.

    Cons

Don't expect to go from part time to full time even if you have an open availability. I've been working there going on two years and still get treated as if I'm new.

    Advice to Management

If you want your employees to respect you and pay attention you, learn how to talk to them, remember without them that store wont be what it is. Show people more respect.

    Pros

Decent hourly pay for retail. Some locations have a feeling of family for co workers.

    Cons

As economy has suffered the management from store level and up have pushed employees harder and harder to accomplish more in less time.

    Advice to Management

Corporate level needs to realize pushing harder creates low morale and lessens loyalty.

    Pros

The hourly pay for Full Time is excellent, you get Christmas bonuses whether your part time or full time, you get Thanksgiving, Christmas, and every Sunday off

    Cons

There have been many times where I've had to put in extra hours and instead of being given the overtime, my hours would be cut on other days. Being a single mom I relied on that overtime. When working full time you are told you have to be available to work a minimum of 2 nights a week, and even though you're usually out by 9pm, it was hard because again, being a single mom, I wanted to be home at night with my son, but my Manager told me if I couldn't work nights that he would fire me. Managers, Co-Managers, and even Assistant Managers have their favorites/pets and it's very clear. These favorites get away with everything and it's very unfair to the other employees who work hard without kissing butt. There's times where if your store is behind in setting up any particular areas of the store, you could be there till all hours of the night. I once worked from 8am-2:30am and was only given a half hour unpaid break. I had to be back to work the next morning at 9am. I then had my hours drastically cut so they wouldn't have to pay me the overtime, then because I was working on something at the time, I got written up for it not being done....even though the manager is the one who sent me home after only being there for a couple hours, and my project was about 98% complete. And it's very hard to climb the ladder in this job as well, unless you are a butt kisser.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees with more respect and maybe they'd actually work harder for you. Allow single moms to work only days so they can be home at night with their children and have dinner with them. Being home at 9pm, is not doing us any favors. If an employee complains about Management playing favorites, LISTEN TO THEM, because odds are, that Manager is doing something 100% AGAINST policy!

    Pros

Great discounts and employee discount, closed sundays, store closes at 8, nice customers, great work environment.
Its a prefect workplace for someone who is NOT LAZY and can pay close attention to detail. Also someone who is used to working in a fast paced working environment thats constantly changing. There is always something to do.

    Cons

    Not enough hours.
Choppy register training unless you get lucky and get trained by someone who knows their stuff.

    Advice to Management

Make wiser decisions when it comes to scheduling employees where you need them.
