    Pros

Good company to work for, good pay, easy work, no work on Sundays no overnight hours close at 8pm Work every other weekend.

    Cons

I have had 6 managers in 12 years,no advancement to higher positions unless you hired in as a co-manager.Only get 35-38 hours a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice been with this company long enough to know what it all about.Full of empty promises. One Regional Manager can have a impact on your career.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

good starting salary for full time
    sundays off
most associates are really good hard working people

    Cons

never hire full time, always just part time until a full time position is open, which there are few
cutting hours to keep the big wigs rolling in the dough
expecting everyone to work nights which usually follows with a 8 am call for morning
not paying fair wages to dept managers
new hires get the same full time salary that those who have been there for many years , everyone should get their own merit / annual raises that goes beyond new hire wages
expect each person to do the work of 3 people in an unreasonable amount of time and when they do it instead of encouragement and praise for a job well done you only get more criticism of how you should now do even more
Dave Green has no idea how hard we work to keep him in the millions and while most of the wages are fair, there are many gaps that should be better, and there should be more appreciation for what we do instead of criticism pushing for more when we already to so much more than we should have to because they keep the store understaffed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your dept heads fairly especially in the depts that have the most work like framing. Framing manager should get more than just 50 cents above full time, responsibilities are outrageous and when there is a problem with their team dept head gets the heat. The stress of demands on the framing manager is extreme and there is no reward for going above and beyond what it takes to keep the shop running, spotless, and keep customers happy and coming back ex:.my store manager is now talking about hiring a part timer at 2 dollars above the minimun wage for part time and yet the framing manager is only making 50 cents more than regular full time. this is completely unfair and unreasonable, there are so many extra responsibilities along with the regular shop functions and 50 cents is more of an insult

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

Pay is great for retail, hours are relatively flexible for part time employees

    Cons

The hours are just as bad as any other retail store, the management can be horrible, there isn't much room for advancement.

I worked at Hobby Lobby full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers made the job the best. Vacation time and sick pay are always a plus.

    Cons

Hard work is ok, long days is ok, but POOR communication with new management. It has become a sexist, unhappy environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Screen managers better! Value your workers opinions. We are the ones who have to deal with ground level problems.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Since I only work part time, my manager is pretty flexible and laid back. Also, starting pay for part time is $10 an hour.

    Cons

Everything at Hobby Lobby is old fashioned--we don't use scanners at the cash registers, you have to know all of the sales that are going on. Also, a lot of things about the company are backwards. They constantly have us moving a lot of merchandise around right after it's already been set.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They offer $15/hr which is more than I can say for most retail places. They have a wide selection of merchandise too.

    Cons

The fact that the pay is so good. They make u feel like you owe them your lung because of it. There is alot of favoritism also which kills team spirit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show some genuine appreciation to your employees because they are truly the ones that make your company run. They are the ones in direct contact with the customers that come into the store to give you the money you are going after.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby

    Pros

The starting pay is much more than any job I've had. My coworkers are great people and fun to work with. Managers are awesome. I love that we close at 8, and I'm very grateful for Sundays off.

    Cons

There are so many rules that no one ever told me about, and then I get in trouble for breaking them. There are no scanners, which makes everything very slow. Remembering all the discounts is absolutely ridiculous. I've never been more berated and insulted by customers before working here. I get very little hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inform each employee of all the corporate regulations. The system of manually entering prices and remembering discounts needs to be improved.

It's an OK place to get more experience in the work force but as a student in college I wouldn't recommend staying.

I have been working at Hobby Lobby part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The good reasons to work here is that it builds better communication skills with people. I easily get along with co workers.

    Cons

The only challenge I see is to get things zoned and cleaned on time and also dealing with picky or rude customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As a sudent studying criminal justice to get in the FBI academy. This job is the last thing on my mind. Most employees have a low self esteem and missed there chances for better opportunitys but it is understandable for situations they had in there earlier years but the only thing that gets on my nerves is that some just chose to do nothing in there lives when doors where open. The managers can be disorganized but some are very good with managing time and ideas before the last minute. The store I work at didn't have a better idea for good time zoning until the head management payed a visit. Unfortunately I tend to get bored easily in this job it just never brings any new challenges according to long term co workers.
