I have been working at Hofstra University part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Hofstra is a melting pot for students, administrators, and faculty from all different walks of life. With 140 different major programs for students to choose from, employees interact with a plethora of different experiences on a daily basis. This free exchange of knowledge and ideas make the University an exceptional environment to foster creative thinking and innovation for all individuals.

    Cons

Low compensation rate for Graduate Assistants (highest annual stipend amounts to $2,000)
Student employees paid federal minimum wage, low chance for increasing that salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on graduate student opportunities. Undergraduates seem to get a lot more attention than those higher educational opportunities, which will be especially imperative if Hofstra ever plans to compete with schools such as NYU and Columbia.

I have been working at Hofstra University

    Pros

This is truly an employer with a great environment. There is work-life balance, a beautiful campus, and nice people.

    Cons

There is not a lot of job mobility, which is probably because employees are pretty happy and tend to stay put for many many years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Great job

I enjoyed working as a math tutor

I worked at Hofstra University part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I had a lot of flexibility in terms of times, I met many interesting people, and was able to make people happy

    Cons

The work often comes in spurts, with many people all showing around exam time. I was unable to build strong contacts with the people I worked with because they would often come for a short amount of time and never show up again

I have been working at Hofstra University as a contractor for more than a year

    Pros

There is a great feeling here on the Hofstra campus, one of belonging. The energy is awesome. Teaching at my alma mater had been a long-time goal, and I was thrilled when it became a reality.

    Cons

Would like to be here full-time! Because I am a special instructor in the Continuing Ed division, I don't get involved in the politics of campus life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would like to see additional faculty opportunities open up.

I have been working at Hofstra University part-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you like teaching, Hofstra is great.
Colleagues are easy to get a long with.
Everyone is helpful and will get you what you need if you ask.

    Cons

Unfortunately, currently shrinking, so the number of classes available to teach is going to decrease. Some of the more senior staff is retiring in the next few years and it is a shame to see them go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing exactly what you are doing. Fight to get more students into the math program and encourage more participation through student clubs.
