    Pros

Absolutely the best job we've ever had!!. Plus I get to work with my best friend (and husband). I doubt I would feel like this if I were younger but my husband & I are in our 50's and hope that this is our last job & that we retire from Holiday. At the end of the day we truly feel like we made a difference no matter how small. I've read reviews that complain about the coffee pouring but it gives us a one on one up close & personal experience at every meal. Relationships are built & solidified but also noticing if someone is not at a meal or not feeling well. It's amazing to see how each resident feels special that we remember what they prefer (decaf, regular, tea, etc.) I agree that this NOT for everyone but it's personally rewarding and satisfying for us. The apartment, utilities, housekeeping and chef prepared meals that are included definitely add value to your competitive salary. I can not speak for others but this was the perfect fit for us! Having amazing Lead Managers definitely helps. We were very fortunate to be placed with the best lead management team ever. All 4 of us are working managers and the community always comes first!!

    Cons

Very long hours! The job description of two 12 hour days is not realistic at all. In reality those 2 days are more like 15 hours. Due to many daily "interruptions" , calls from residents and overseeing housekeeping/server staff which takes up most of the day it is almost impossible to complete daily duties thus resulting in working past 9 PM on closing or double days. The opening time of 7:30 is misrepresented because you have to open the building for the kitchen staff that come in at 6 AM and set up the coffee bar.

    Advice to Management

All Regional Management should spend 2-3 weeks in a community to actually get a feel and live a day in the life. Each community is different and the "pulse" of each community is different as well. I believe the needs of the residents definitely varies from community to community.

Please come & walk a day in our shoes!!!!

    Pros

There were good benefits at Holiday. The HR staff is great. The ability to get to travel to other Holiday Communities and stay there was wonderful.

    Cons

I really can't think of anything negative about their benefits.

    Advice to Management

Hire a SERVER to pour coffee instead of making the Managers do it.

    Pros

The best thing about this place is it's commitment to growing and becoming the best company it can be.

I've been working here since October 1, 2014 (two and a half months, as of this writing), and I have been blown away multiple times by the leadership's focus on making this a world-class organization and a better environment in which to work. They are very open to employees' suggestions and are working hard at knocking down the separation between departments and job functions. The company is also very transparent with its staff. Employees are kept informed and are consulted about new company-wide initiatives through pilot programs and surveys.

I'm also really impressed by how much this company cares about its end users, its residents. Whenever changes to processes are discussed, impact to residents is always the first concern. Residents also participate in surveys and pilot programs to make sure that new programs will fill needs and be successful.

Day-to-day, the culture here is relaxed and supportive, committed to work-life balance, focused on increasing efficiency without nickel-and-diming budgets, open to innovation, new ideas, and new technology, and determined to enhance employee and resident experience.

I've enjoyed working for other companies over the last ten years. As a long-term contractor, I've worked in four other large corporations in the area. All four had great qualities that made them successful companies, and the people I worked with became life-long friends. But after transitioning to Holiday, I can say with certainty that none of them were as good a fit for my values and my personality as Holiday is.

    Cons

There aren't really any cons that I've found so far, which is why I can so categorically recommend working for this company. I suppose the compensation for my job might be 5% or so higher at larger companies, but IMO the rewards of working here vastly outweigh a slightly larger paycheck.

    Pros

Attention towards improving overall culture both in the Home Office and in the field is present in every meeting and conversation within the HR department
We've hired a lot of really good people in key areas who not only possess a strong skill set to do the job....but also has a passion working with seniors and getting this company to be where it needs to be
A vast majority of our department has been together for over two years now, which helps tremendously with chemistry and understanding how to achieve the best candidate experience possible

    Cons

This hasn't always been a great company....but we're a good company now with aspirations of being a great company in the future
The transformation from privately owned to being owned by a large PEG has led to natural bumps in the road
The term '40 year old start-up' is used so often because it's true....we have a lot of work to do

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing...the growth I've seen in the last 2.5 years is very promising

    Pros

As co manager & floating manager in about 30 Holiday units over a 15 year period, I am proud to say Holiday has been very good to us. We have full benefits, no traffic jams, are well fed and housed with wonderful staff & residents wherever we go, even on vacation in our units across the US. When mom became a resident, I learned the family and resident side of the story, and must say mom has thrived. Health, social life, and financially, Holiday has bent over backwards to make her life comfortable. She says "I never dreamed I could be living this well at 96." Most of our residents are quite happy and thankful.

    Cons

Management teams who micro manage and don't follow the Holiday guidelines. Some residents are very needy & management is so pressured to rent apartments, many come needing more care than we are legally allowed to give them. Need to clarify those concerns when doing discovery.

    Advice to Management

Too many power struggles between managers & co-managers. Need smart pairing of management teams. Peace & joy in the building is the main goal and management must get along better....maybe people skill classes..
Quarterly mandatory training for servers who work weekends & evenings would maximize efficiency and avoid unfinished tasks & working past end of shift.

    Pros

First and foremost the residents make it all worth the commitment it takes for this job. The pay is very reasonable especially if your bonuses are great. The perks are great. On-site Managers only pay for their cell phone if they live on-site. On-site managers do not pay for housing, cable, utilities or food. It is hard honest work. You do earn all that you get but if you want to be able to sock away some money this is the way to go.

    Cons

Manager's are only teams and both managers must stay on-site after office hours. Be prepared to work long hours.

    Advice to Management

Only one of the team should stay on-site like the floaters. This would eliminate some of the anxiety of not being able to leave and make it more comfortable for the on-call team. More managers would stay with the company.

    Pros

The company is making major changes that positively impact the employee and residents. They have surveyed both employees and residents to find ways to make improvements. Some recent positive changes:

    1. New senior leadership that is committed to making a positive difference in employee and residents lives.
    2. New rewards and recognition programs that are providing cash and certificates to the front line employees.
    3. Active campaigns to give back to veterans and local communities both in money and volunteer time.
    4. Increased facility improvement budgets.
    5. Pay and benefits are great.
    6. Over the last year communications have improved. We hear a lot more about what is going on in the company.

Additionally, the company is growing, stable, and in the right demographic for the future. If you like connecting with people, love customer service, and are not afraid of hard work the communities are a great place. Holiday is making a difference for thousands of individuals everyday.

    Cons

The company like many companies during the recession had to put a larger focus on sales. This is changing as the company now has high occupancy. The community manager and sales roles are hard positions. Those dedicated to the residents will find the rewards, but those in it just for a job will struggle. Many negative reviews are from people who were not successful.

    Advice to Management

Continue the cultural changes. In the last year there have been a lot of positive changes.
