    Pros

Flexible hours if you need it. The owner is an amazing human being and I truly enjoyed his love for people

    Cons

No benefits at all, very low pay.

    Advice to Management

Too many new people in the office positions and it has caused a lot of of critical issues to never even make it to the owner, they also seem to be hiring anyone with a pulse, but considering the low pay, that is all they are drawing in for new employees.

    Pros

Working with the clients and caregivers.

    Cons

Owner mandates that all administrative employees are available 24/7 to assist in her various demands, including daycare of her newly birthed grandchild, which she brings to work on a daily basis. Very unprofessional and inappropriate environment. This office outlines everything that is wrong with franchise-based home care.

    Advice to Management

Keep your family life and professional life separate. Employ people based on their skills, not friendship status.

    Pros

    Flexible
Moderately good training for an agency - have had NO training in other HHC agencies

    Cons

Very low pay - start was 9.00 - year later up to 10.00/hr [when clients are paying $25-45/hr]
No care for workers - if you had a problem, it was basically "they are old and sick, get over it"
Called with questions on your day off A LOT
Owners of Franchise live in mansion
Most clients treat you like you are the maid they never had
Many times we were hired by clients because we are cheaper than maid service ($20/hour for a maid)
Many clients say insulting things - endure much abuse - most are on major meds so... makes them insane
They placed me with dementia/Alzheimers patients non-stop for 4 years with no psychological support and low pay
Client coordinators pretended to be compassionate until had a problem - then pass you off to others
Payroll woman was a colossal witch - paychecks obtuse and hard to follow
    No benefits
Employee made to feel like a criminal in any difficulty

    Advice to Management

No advice to them - they are money makers - they won't change - if they did? Be less greedy. Caregivers should get at MINIMUM $15.00/hour. 250 workers (total in this town) making the Agency (low ball) $25/hr per 24 hour day: That gives them approx $600/day X 250 (workers) = $150,000.00 per day (yes, they provide 24 hour care) Multi-million dollar business.

    Pros

The pros are (at Va Bch office) you're always meeting interesting clients and caregivers. If you're in admin you always have a busy day in the office and never dull. If you're a caregiver the work you do is appreciated.

    Cons

If you're in admin it will be challenging sometimes with the lack of team work and owner neglect. If you're a caregiver the pay & hrs are not amiable. You will need to have a primary job w/ this being supplemental income.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to your staff and actually care enough to build team work amongst them.

    Pros

Flexible shifts. They have the training for you but if you want to leave the company it doesn't go with you.

    Cons

They change your schedule even though you have put your availability in. The pay is horrible and there is no benefits. The staff doesn't care about your needs.

    Pros

Getting to Care for individuals is very rewarding work.

    Cons

Absolutely no training, the management sits you in a room for 6 hours and shows videos about how to help someone in and out of a wheelchair. The pay is $9.25 an hour even if you have further education in Care giving. No benefits what so ever. If you speak up about another Caregiver's poor performance (even if it puts the client's health as risk) you will get reprimanded or terminated to cover themselves. Half the time if you need to get a hold of someone in an emergency or need help they are nowhere to be found. They do not treat their Caregivers with respect and anything goes as long as the client and caregiver keeps their mouth shut. I would NEVER hire Home Instead to Care for ANYONE in need, they are sloppy and endanger their clients that really need to be cared for in a responsible way.

    Advice to Management

Treat your Caregivers with respect, pay what their worth. Hire different managers, that actually care about Home Instead's Clients and their families.

    Pros

A rewarding job caring for the elderly

    Cons

I work for Home Instead Senior Care for 5 years and three months. I enjoyed my job and enjoyed caring for the elderly. Would still be there if It wasn't for the new Human Resource women they hired. She didn't like the Care givers that were there for a long time. She lied to either get you fired or make you quit your job. Made sure you had very few hours and gave you clients that no one wanted. When you tried to collect unemployment, she lied and told them I was going to beat her up and that I swore at her.

    Advice to Management

Make sure when you hire a new Human Resource. That they understand that you are management and they still should abide by your rules and not make up their own. A lot of good caregivers left your company because of you new Human Resource.

    Pros

It took a few weeks to begin building hours and assignments, but eventually I averaged 20 - 25 hrs /wk.

    Cons

Right off the bat, they said they could not guarantee hours for me every week.

    Advice to Management

Respect your Care-Giver workers. They are the "engine" of your business. If management does not consider "work & life balance" of their workers, the workers are at high risk of "burning-out." In the end, I learned that even though I worked hard, and did my best to fulfill all that was required of me, including working weekends for almost 2 years, the management did not value me enough. I am so relieved to no longer work for this company!

    Pros

Applied online and was called for an interview the very next day. Working with the elderly using the services was rewarding

    Cons

Besides the low wages (which was expected taking this job) the owner was difficult to work with. From the time I was hired, I received a phone call every single day asking to take someone's shift because they had called off. Then when it came time to asking for ONE day off because I was moving, my request was denied. It seemed like it would have just been easier to call off. Everything was already set for that day so I informed them I would not be able to come in. The owner called me the day I was moving and left a voice mail stating that, "If you do not call me back within the next 30 minutes I am calling your apartment complex and informing them you no longer work here". Very unprofessional and drove me away.
