I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The reason I like working here are the professionalism of their employees. Their pay scale is awesome and bonuses is rewarding.

    Cons

Being away form you family is the biggest complaint. Infidelity is another problem on both sides of the relationship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Persons who has to work overseas should get a health compensation pay hike. If an immediate family member gets ill the employer should compensated for the days lost in taking care of their family, like vacation time.

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Decent boats, good ONBOARD training, variety of schedules.

    Cons

You're just another number. Don't expect any exceptional treatment even if you do a fantastic job. If you do great, you're left alone. If you screw up a little bit, expect hellfire and brimstone. Yes you get quarterly bonuses, if the world is perfect and the planets are aligned. Any tiny discrepancy whatsoever forfeits your quarterly bonus. Big disconnect between office personnel and boat crews. Overly complicated and burdensome travel pay rules and so-called "longevity" pay (Definitely not what it sounds like).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop purposely attempting to confuse and mislead employees on travel pay & reimbursement and longevity. Competing companies pay door to door on travel pay. Make it a selling point for your company that you do so, like competitors. This way it would never be a point of contention and poor moral. It would be the reverse. Longevity: pay an employee for the TOTAL number of years they've been employed and pay them for all of those years at their CURRENT rate based on their CURRENT position. Again, a selling point instead of a point of contention. Are we seeing a trend here?

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good advancement opportunities, good pay, great benefits. New vessels being built currently extending the range of new equipment and opportunities.

    Cons

Some micro-management from the shore side personnel. Disconnect between the head office and the vessel personnel.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to your roots and reconnect with the vessel crews on a personal level.

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Driven and growing company. The structure, operations, and direction of the company are strong. Salaries are very competitive. Newer equipment, good resources, access to management if need be. One of top boat companies.

    Cons

The osv employees from years past that linger bring down the overall functionality of the business. They are not motivated and hold no accountability. The office keeps a strong hold as if they are directing monkeys. The income here is unbelievable for the required work actually done. I suppose that should be a plus but it's actually pathetic. Travel allowance is paid relative to the distance you live from the office. Max allowance per rotation is $370.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In todays booming oil and gas industry you can not keep up with the good ole boys operating and working your business.

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore

    Pros

The company stands behind its workers. The pay has recently caught up and surpassed the competition (hope they keep it up there). Equipment is well maintained. Good support from shore base, sat TV and V-Sat on vessels for crews coms with home. Pretty good benifits, new vessels coming out. Overall I am happy to work here with the even time schedule 21/21

    Cons

Pay until recently was sub-par, Older vessels are uncomfortable and cramped, Could be better employee support and benifits, No performance based pay increase (a poor worker or less experienced worker may make the same as you), Rediculous amount of paperwork!!!, Quick to lay fault on vessel crew without taking into account shore sides responsibility, Hard to get training if it is not something that does not directly benifit the company. The older vessels still do not have V-Sat, phone and sat tv forthe crew ( I have been told they are going to be retrofitted, The Hornbeck designed vessels ride terrible and are uncomfortable and cramped, They have grown to where you are just a number now I like the smaller company feeling where you are family,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the pay high, and be selective about personnel to get and keep the best you have to pay well, listen to them and treat them well. Only keep the best of the best get rid of the ones who do not meet the cut don't just let them tag along on the others coat tails.

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore

    Pros

It's big enough to provide lots of openings across the fleet but smaller than the really big companies where lots of really bad captains slip through the cracks.

    Cons

Less competitive salary and crew amenities than other companies in the Maritime industry like most diving companies. No wifi. No sat phone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better crew amenities aboard the vessels. One boat I worked had the crew all chipping in to buy satellite tv because their boats have no wifi.

I have been working at Hornbeck Offshore

    Pros

The benefits are decent and there are plenty of oportunities for professional development. Transportation to and from vessels is paid for by the company, as well as professional training pertaining to your job description.

    Cons

There is no profit sharing with the boat crews and boat crew members loose individual safety bonus upon someone else's fault on an incident, althoug not personally involved. Also, it seems like the paper work is geeting out of control.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We need to accomodate people who need to work over time during their time off. During this times of economical recession a family man who works away from his home and family needs to make at least 65K.
