I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the employees really are great to work with, but most should not be working in a medical field.

    Cons

They care more about the bottom line then they do patient care. Hiring uncertified MA's that don't know a generic drug from a brand name.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to care more about patients and employee's

I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I worked for HCA for over 20 years. They were very conscious of patient satisfaction and good care. Recently. It was all about money and dangerously cutting staff. Several patient falls, and only hiring new grads. Having unbearable assignments of up to 8 or more patients with the charge nurse at times having to take just as many in order to take some of the load off the nurses. Very poor nurse moral, and no plans in place to make any of this better. Finally left, vowing to never let a hospital turn me in to a nurse I know I never want ro be.

    Pros

Very limited on Pros. Had alot of potential until management was unable to maintain.

    Cons

Lousy management when present (most moved or got fired), limited advancement unless out of state, Outdated models of clinical applications compared to other companies. Meditech being a primary example. Windows XP being another example. Alot of revolving doors in the particular facility I speak of and "duct-tape" fixing instead of doing it right.

I worked at Hospital Corporation of America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Flexible hours with remote opportunity.

    Cons

Coding Director and Assistant Director are insensitive and unwilling to work with employees. Everything has to be done according to the policy down to the letter. No exceptions to the rule unless you're one of their pets... Do not work for them as a coder, you will regret it. Since I've been with the company, within the last year, 5 managers have quit. The corporate office should consider changing the business class internet service requirement. Everyone cannot obtain business class internet as they are not considered a business client, and have to pay higher rates for the service. No other company who gives the option of remote coding request business class internet. This is a ridiculous policy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to Corporate - change the policy of business class internet. The speed requirement - is appropriate but the business class internet - too much especially when you don't offer to put the account under HCA and bill the employee.
