Vice President Sales (Current Employee) Irving, TX

ProsGreat brands and plenty of opportunity to work on projects and programs that you would not receive at larger companies

ConsBonus payout is sketchy but salary is good.

    Struggling to Gain Traction

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsHostess has solid financial backing and solid brands. Everyone wants to see the company succeed. Employees are loyal and hardworking.

ConsThe company has not successfully grown revenues. Its market share and quality are currently too weak to develop positive momentum.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a fresh look at the company's assets (brands, infrastructure, employees, etc) and the market opportunity and reevaluate what key initiatives should be. The emphasis on brands and Path to Market has not been successful so far.

We need to go back 30 years.

    Route Salesman (Current Employee)

ProsIt pays the bills, but just barley

ConsIncompentance everywhere, It seems that the compant wants to survive but has know idea of how to do it. Makes cuts to personell at the wrong level and wrong people.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo back to the ideas that got you to where you were before things went bad. Let the local plants run themselves, GET RID OF ALL THE DAMN VARIETIES. sell the mail line and let the others try all the nickle and dime stuff. Let your sales staff do their job, Mr. Driscoll, Path To Market is a very bad idea, why have five people do the job of one? Get rid of the V.P.s we don't need 10 layers of management to do you job, and pay us what we are worth, you would be surprised what we could do if we were motovated (paid) to do so.

Every division and department is different

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Irving, TX

ProsMany long term employees with lots of knowledge. If you were around before or during the bankruptcy, you earned your stripes! Many are open to discussion - they may not agree, but are open to discussion.

ConsWe are too short term focused, especially in the field. Some field divisions its never good enough. You hit a home run, and they ask why the bases were not loaded first? Some still live in the past, during the glory years.

Advice to Senior ManagementField politics and protecting one's own are limiting the success that Hostess could have. Last round of layoffs pushed out some good people, who were cut because of politics, not because of work quality.

All training is on-the-job, and most open positions are given to external candidates.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOpportunities available for those with little or no education. Good benefits are available.

ConsThere are not many opportunities to advance in the bakeries, and most professional jobs are at the corporate level.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop talent, and pay for performance.

I have been with the company for almost 21 years and in the past five years the company has went down so fast

    Shipping (Current Employee) Indianapolis, IN

ProsIt is a steady income and provided insurance.

ConsThe new upper management is clueless as to how a bakery should run, Our plant has lost so many good people due to corp, choices.

Advice to Senior Managementstart compensating your employees for their time. Your management team does not enjoy 70 hours a week with no compensation. you make the bucks so should they!
