    Pros

    Good vacation time and holiday pay for most standard holidays with a typical option to work on those days if you want to.

    Cons

    Pay is not commensurate with industry standards with other hosting companies and there are hardly ever any reviews or raises at all, no opportunity for advancement to speak of, no feeling of having a career path here. Management is disjointed and does not disseminate information effectively so that all areas of the business know what's going on in order to do their jobs properly. Typical the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing situation.. management never listens to advice from the people who deal with the daily operations they make unilateral decisions without informing themselves of the best practices that should be taken into consideration while planning. They move very slowly on new technology development.

    Advice to Management

    If you want to sustain long term growth it is critical to involve the people in making business decisions who will actually be supporting the products you intend to sell. That will make for happier, more satisfied customers as well as more satisfied employees.

    Pros

    In the begining Hostway gave me the opportunity to learn and grow - they seemed to have faith in their staff and everyone was like family

    Cons

    Management became unresponsive to employee needs - would not compensate people for how they performed but who they knew - disregarded people who worked hard and faithfully for them - They moved valueable departments to Florida where incompetance was rampant.

    Advice to Management

    Really take a look at who is working for you and recognize your talent - Treat people fairly and with respect - Lucas needs to not trust management alone because they are not truthfull to him and he needs ot reach out to the people who are grinding away trying to make a success instead of showing them the door to try and make a buck. Look close because the change to Florida cost a lot more money, and customers, than it saved him.

    Pros

    Depending on where you are located, good/friendly co-workers. You can learn as much as you would like to.

    Cons

    Bad employee morale throughout the company. Upper management doesn't have a cohesive, unified vision. A lot of inter-departmental politics. Caliber of sales & marketing staff is extremely low.

    Advice to Management

    Caring & listening to employees will go a long way. Be results-oriented. Best to not keep VPs around that continue to miss their objectives on a regular basis.

    Pros

    Work culture is casual and friendly. Decent work-life balance. Occasional free food/snacks/movies/outings to keep the employees entertained. Less stress as once you get into the routine set here, there are hardly any challenges to throw you off your game.

    Cons

    Lack of vision and strategy. Lack of effective training. Lack of growth opportunities. Salary doesn't compare to other organisations in the same domain/field. The in-house tools need major bug fixing.

    Advice to Management

    Envision a plan and work towards it. Stop changing it at the very first roadblock/obstacle.

    Pros

    I believe that there are several employees within the organization that are extremely talented, resourceful and "out-of-the box" thinkers, who could make positive changes within the organization. Unfortunately, many of these employee's we either "muzzled" or they decided to leave the organization for another career opportunity.

    Cons

    However, upper management is resistant to allowing their employees to become empowered in their roles in order for them to create change and/or to allow their voices to be heard. Many of these reviews that other employee's left on this forum are definitely accurate in how this organization is managed currently. In terms of salaries, Hostway is not inline with the industry standards, they are extremely cheap and they do not value their employee's contributions towards the business objectives. No incentives - bonuses do not exist, nor they provide suitable salary increases during performance evaluations.

    I think it would be pointless for me to provide them with any advice, since they always do their own thing...

    Pros

    The quality of a subset of the people there is really top-shelf. They are what make going in to the workplace tolerable.

    Cons

    The company pays lip service to putting customers first, but does not enable the employees to make that happen. There is very little career advancement.

    Advice to Management

    Recognize those who work hard and help the company. Get rid of the deadwood, and reward the people you have left.

    Pros

    The people I work with are great. My co-workers, as well workers from other departments, were willing to help me out when in need. I also learn a lot from my other workers as they had no issue in instructing me how to use a certain system or OS, how to configure a server to make their job easier. It was a great place to learn.

    Cons

    The CEO stated the company will not let go any of its own employees after it bought its rival, but that didn't last that long and had to let go its workers. All those great people who help me out in the past were fired as they were to expensive. Others left because out of spite towards the company on how they were treated. New upper manger had no people skills as he doesn't show a single ounce of empathy towards others. Fought for a raise as my pay was really low (compared to industry standard) and was receiving more expected tasks, ended up with the same pay and more work.

    Advice to Management

    You guys ate to much debt when you bought your rivals. Next time plan out your debt repayment and ROI. It will also help if you guys follow Murphy's law when planning anything. Start treating your employees as people and acknowledge that they even exist. Listen to your workers. People won't be as jovial to work for a place where their willingness to advance position or skill is not acknowledge and nurtured. You may wave the carrot on the stick on front of the donkey but that will only last for so long and you'll have to feed the donkey a carrot, otherwise its just a cruel act.

    Pros

    good for new immigrants, give you a few chances to do what you want to do

    Cons

    poor welfare, just 10 days vacation. cheap medical plan.

    treat employees better, then employees would treat you better and you can keep core staff.
